ABC Wednesday E is for England!

Thanks as Ever to the Effervescent Denise and the Energetic Efforts of her Entire team. Click here to Enjoy more Es and perhaps be Encouraged to Engage in the Exercise which can be Educational as well as Entertaining.

A bit of nonsense this week. Here are the words to the chorus so that you may all join in, no matter what your nationality.
"The English, the English, the English are best,
I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest"
Michael Flanders and Donald Swann  - usually referred to simply as Flanders and Swann - wrote and performed comic songs between 1956 and 1967. Michael Flanders was an actor and singer and Donald Swann was a composer, pianist and linguist. This performance pokes fun at everyone, but particularly the sort of Englishman who is a dyed-in-the-wool jingoist.

Sleep deprived and bleary eyed from assuming awkward positions indeed!

  17. A familiar face! They are and were funny- a peculiar English strand of humour. Contemporary comics Armstrong and Miller do a regular sketch based on them. My E is in a 50 word story called The Prince of Darkness is a gentleman

  18. I like the line "they cheat by practising", must be why the football went so wrong in the summer.
    Funny duo.

  19. Love that song! SOOO politically incorrect, and yet very even handed - they insult everyone equally! LOL!

I'm very fond of Flanders and Swann!

  20. The King's Singers did a Flanders and Swann CD a good few years ago and that song is on it. I have the CD. I'm old enough to remember Flanders and Swann. Loved their brand of humor!
