ABC Wednesday I is for India

Thanks go to Denise Nesbitt and her Indefatigable team who organise and host this meme each week. To see what other players have posted please click here.
Barry and I have spent many hours recently compiling memory books for my mother-in-law, Dorothy. The albums contain a little information, including names for each photograph, to jog her memory. We hope they will stimulate her failing memory and help her to remember happy moments. Some of her fondest memories are of India, where she lived  with her husband and children for three years after the war.

Her Highness Rani Sahiba Kusum Kumari of Mandi, who was awarded the Kaiser-i-Hind Gold Medal in the Birthday Honours list for outstanding social services.
Dorothy and her family were in India when Gandhi was assassinated on 30th January 1948. She saw the crowds passing by on the road below her flat.

  5. Wow. I love these photos. They are gorgeous... and somehow, even though I don't know any of the subjects, they are inspiring...

Thank you, also, for posting a comment on my silly Gladys Kravitz poem. I appreciate it!

  8. What wonderful photographs. I hope that the photographs jog your mother-in-law's memory.

My mother died of Alzheimer's Disease in 2007. Her brightest memory seemed to be when she was a teenager. It is strange how the mind works.

  12. Photographs like these are a great way to give memories back, my mother has dementia but her visual memory isn't too bad so it is nice to talk over the photos with her.
India must have been a great place for a child.

Yes, I think they are mirror twins. Not real sure of that term. Will look it up.

  14. BTW ~ I had 4 singletons too. Three girls and a boy. My oldest is pushing 50, so that was a long time ago.

  15. A priceless and very tender thing to do. I really hope the memory books will help your mother in law. The ravages of aging are so difficult sometimes.

  16. Oh, Janice, I hope the photos do stimulate Dorothy's memory.
My parents each handled the memory-loss problem differently, but part of Mother's was rather sweet. My niece was pregnant, and every time she visited, Mom would say, "You're having a baby, how wonderful!" because she kept forgetting. So it was always a surprise and a joy to her.
Mother lived to see her great-granddaughter, and died a month later.
You may find these wonderful photos make Dorothy happy, all over again, every time you visit her.
(Barry and his brother were certainly adorable little fellows, weren't they?)

  18. I have just recently finished reading "The Haj" by Leon Uris and found it fascinating. My grandfather served during World War 1 up in the Khyber Pass. One hundred years later we're still having troubles there. The more things change the more they stay the same, as my Grandmother would say.

  19. What a kind and considerate thing to do for your mother in law. And just look at those locks on the little boys! There are women who would covet curls like that!
