Book Blurb Friday #11

This meme is hosted by Lisa Ricard Claro at ‘Writing in the Buff’ J

Each week she posts a photo that could be the cover of a book. The aim is to:
‘Write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book.’

Here is this week's photo followed by my offering.

If it was surprising to come across a wrecked, abandoned car in the desert, it was even more puzzling that someone should have gone to the trouble of jacking it up on concrete pillars. Had something been hidden in the wreck – or under it?

Millicent and Ivor sense a mystery but their bumbling efforts to solve it lead to more conundrums. The truth, when they discover it, is more startling than they ever could have imagined.

  1. This is wonderful! I love that the two lead characters are bumbling detectives; it opens up so many possibilities. This is something I'd read, because you piqued my interest without telling me too much. I want to read more!

  2. I just love the names Millicent and Ivor. And a set of bumbling detectives with great names would be a wonderful basis for a series.

  3. Hi J. -

I really like the opening to your story. It can go in so many different ways, and implies humor and fun along the way. I want to read more and find out what happens next.

Thanks so much for your comments!

  4. Ivor and Millicent seem like a likeable couple...but it also seems like they might get into a lot of trouble if they are digging around someone else's treasure! Oh, this could go so wrong and funny, too! Nice one!

  5. What names! This blurb seems to have the makings of a good mystery with a little bit of humorous tidbits thrown in for good measure.

  14. Millicent and Ivor---Great names, and the fact that they're bumbling means you could inject a bit of comic relief into the story now and then...

  15. Somewhat I missed Millicent and Ivor's adventures they are apparently detectives. Inspector Barnaby would have found a skeleton in the car ( at least one, better two, a loving couple, disappeared 40 years ago from a castle in Midsommer Highlands !
