ABC Wednesday Round 9 C is for Clematis

Clematis in the garden in July and August
Clematis 'Pille' grows vigorously over one of the arches from July to September
Clematis 'Comtesse de Bouchard' grows in our front garden during June, July, August and September
Clematis tangutica flowers from July to October
When the flowers go over they are replaced by these pretty seed heads
Clematis 'Huldine' is another strong climber, flowering, like tangutica, from late summer to late autumn
On the reverse of each petal are three purple stripes

All these clematis should be pruned hard before spring growth starts

  5. Lovely flower pics. One of the clematis in my garden has gone mad and climbed through a california lilac, the other seems to have disappeared completely! It obviously didn't have it's 'head in the sun, feet in the shade'.

I think I need some of these in my garden.

  7. If I saw these in your garden, I think I would be tempted to wander in for a close look. Any flower that looks this good after it has finished blooming is a joy to have around.

  9. Your pictures show just how beautiful these wonderful flowering vines are. Our clematis blooms here in the near-subtropics in April!

  10. Oh, I love that last photo. How lovely.
I saw some clematis growing here in our little town outside Medicine Hat, Alberta, today. It was on a south-facing wall, and they must mulch the roots in winter, otherwise it wouldn't survive our winters.
Now I'm trying to think of a south-facing place in our yard where I could try it, but I don't think it's possible. Meanwhile, am enjoying your photos, Janice.

Your pictures are wonderful. I've nowhere to plant them at my home so I drool over other people's displays.

  32. When I was little, our second grade teacher read us a book called, "Clematis." I think it was the name of the little girl, but that's all I remember! Anyway, because of it, I've always been partial to the Clematis vine. And, because it comes in so many varieties. So lovely.
