I Saw Sunday Week 48 Ladybird, ladybird

You can see our house reflected in her wing casing

Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home,
Your house is on fire and your  children are gone,
All except one and that's little Ann,
And she has crept under the warming pan.

I saw a ladybird in the garden today but I didn't set her on my finger and recite this verse to her. I wanted her to feast until fit to bust on the aphids.
She was a 7-spot ladybird, one of  the commonest of all the ladybirds. It's unlucky to kill a ladybird, not that I would ever want to. Who could wish ill to this delightful creature?

See what other people saw on Sunday here

  1. They are cute, great shots of the ladybug. And they are great bugs to have around.

  2. Aren't they cute? There was one in my house the other day and it took two of us to get her outside and safely onto a plant, but we did it.

  3. Fabulous photographs, and I agree about encouraging ladybirds, the rose grower's best friends.

  4. What fantastic photos! I love the shine on its body and the way you can see it holding the edge of the leaf. Wonderful shots. :-)

  6. I love ladybirds. If one lands on me I consider it great good luck and will transport it carefully to somewhere more suitable. Nothing on this earth would persuade me to do that for any other beetle. It must be all down to the pretty colour.

as handsome as they come! May you have many more!

  10. You are so observant to see the reflection of your house on the ladybird. They call them ladybugs over here. Ladybird is so much more genteel!

  18. After we returned from the National Parks, I asked our granddaughter what her favorite thing was after seeing the wonders of Yellowstone, Glacier, the Grand Tetons, Rushmore, etc. She said, "The Ladybug." We'd stopped at a road side to look at some flowers and she was enchanted with a lonely ladybug on a wildflower.
