Word verification continued - Anonymous!

Since disabling word verification and moderation I have had a flurry of comments from Anonymous in its various guises and languages so I have now banned it and am allowing Registered Users only. I refer to Anonymous as ‘it’ since it cannot or will not acknowledge itself.

I sent the following link, which I found on Raindrops and Daisies, to Amanda at Amanda's Musings, as she was getting very frustrated too.

Why not read it – it argues the case very clearly.

  1. I've disabled voice verification via the old dashboard. it's easy.
I've since had two anonymous messages, so I'll probably go and disable anonymous comments too.

I can't stand wasting time on deciphering these idiot scribbles and will probably stop commenting on most of the blogs that still have them.

  2. The new word verification drives me mad. I will disable it (just after I've typed this comment) on my own blog and hope that I won't get too much spam.

I'll follow your link first ;-)

  3. Oh I am glad someone else is struggling with the robot/idiot WV that has been invading the blogsphere. I thought it was only my old eyes and/or low frustration tolerance threshold.

  4. I had to go back to the old interface to disable it, too. In many respects I prefer the old format but uploading photos and text is much easier and clearer with the new interface.

  5. Carolina, if you don't allow Anonymous I think the spammers should be frustrated.
Isabel - I think the ink blot would try anyone's eyes!

  9. Actually, I find the more I do it, the better I get. Those blurs are beginning to take shape after about 30 or so comments with the new wv.
I think it involves a certain way of looking at the characters from a distance and not thinking about it.

    Word verification is evil!!!!

  11. I don't allow anonymous comments either and took off word verification. I tried the new interface once and then got rid of it. I guess I don't like change of any kind!

  12. Hi Janice .. not sure what taking off the anonymous will do - anything odd? I might try it tomorrow.

I've been getting a few comments every day from anonymous commenters on a range of posts going back to 2009 days ..

I'll check out your link tomorrow .. cheers Hilary

  13. I am passing that link on in various ways. Thank you. Odd about people getting comments by Anonymous. I never had any trouble with that, but I think I will forbid Anonymous to be safe.

I tried new interface once, went back to the old.

  14. Janice, I am spreading this site 'big time' in Bloggerville. Various well trafficked sites will not be spreading the word! Thank you.....

  15. Word verification drives me nuts, and I'll only tolerate it on very few blogs. Special ones. I just do comment moderation and weed out the spam since I'm pretty quick on letting comments through. Plus, then my readers don't have to see the junk or have it come in their email.

  16. It looks as though Bloggers are uniting against the evil captcha;-)
