Programme warnings

Programme warnings

I suppose we’re all accustomed to warnings before programmes are broadcast – ‘contains language that some listeners might find offensive,’ ‘includes flash photography,’ ‘some viewers may find the content of this programme upsetting,’ and so forth.

The other day I came across a different warning – ‘This programme contains scenes of surgery and strong language.’ SURGERY??

My husband was glad of the warning – he’s rather squeamish – but there was very little to be concerned about. There’s much worse in Silent Witness and CSI!

  1. Crazy warnings...some times you are left wondering what the heck they were talking about and other times you wish there HAD been a warning.

  2. Surgery? Well, that's a new one on me. Generally even though I know - in the shows on TV such as the ones you mentioned - that it's all 'make-believe', I still turn my head away.

  3. haha:) that sounds like a quality warning. i've done some major surgery on some of my poetry lately, but there's no bringing back to life some things:)

  4. I have heard graphic on the news when meaning surgery.
I could have used that warning the time I watched a show about knee replacement surgery. That still makes me ill.

  5. I've never seen that warning. I can see how a surgery might upset some people.

  6. Now that's an unusual warning. I guess blood and tissue might be alarming to some people, but I would never have thought a warning was necessary!

  7. Ha! I've never seen that one before! Good on them for being specific. :)

  8. I have a good friend that refuses to allow images like that in her mind, she has a photographic memory and they haunt her... perhaps this was for the best.

  9. That's one I haven't seen before. Of course as you mentioned if you watch shows like CSI it wouldn't be much of a shock. Of course after a good day of watching spay/neuters nothing bothers me much. LOL!

  10. I think many fiction programmes revel in the gore of some things, so when it comes to the reality, we find it's probably not that bad.
