End Marmite neglect

Unloved and forgotten, thousands of Marmite jars across the UK are being neglected. This year alone, over 1 in 10 Brits admit they haven't opened their jar in over three months. Through this latest Marmite advert, we've launched an urgent appeal to prevent cruelty, alleviate suffering and promote kindness to all Marmite jars. Get involved now www.endmarmiteneglect.com

Marmite (known as Vegemite in Australia) is a strong, salty, yeasty spread for bread or toast. My particular favourite combination is  Marmite and banana on toast.

  2. As I only know marmites as a huge metal bowl where Obelix fell in and got the "magic portion" for life, I really thought you were talking about animals and was already furiously hanging at the ceiling that people put animals in the fridge !
Lol ! I have never eaten such a spread maybe it's not "organic" enough and therefore out of fashion !

  6. Guilty! Do you think the Marmite Rescue Team will cross the Channel?
But I will check the sell-by date and if still good, I'll try Marmite soldiers in egg this weekend. All for the good cause.

  7. Sadly, I believe I have a neglected jar in my cupboard. Please don't tell the Marmite police!

  8. How long does Marmite keep anyway. I think I threw away my last jar when we moved. A friend had bought a huge jar for me when in New Zealand, not knowing how little you use. It must have been at least 5 years old. So I must visit the British foods store for some more because those Marmite 'soldiers' are calling!

  9. This totally cracked me up, and I'm not even a Brit. But I DO have a neglected jar of Marmite in the pantry. After a number of blogger pals sang its praises, I bought a jar at our local British specialty shop, I tried it. Can't say that I was over-the-top thrilled with the taste sensation, but I'm too cheap to throw it away. Besides, I didn't see an expiration date on it, so I've got plenty of time to give it another try, right?

  13. Marmite is NOT vegemite, and tastes very different.
Even our vegemite isn't what it used to be, it's now sludgy and brown and hard to spread, and I now buy Ozemite instead. It's much more like the vegemite I remember from my childhood.

  14. Good for the cause! I never developed a taste for Marmite so I am not much help but love tradition and I have many Brit friends over here that have.
