The Merry,
Merry Month of May
Let’s
hope it will be a merry month and that the sun shines more than momentarily.
We roamed the fields and river sides
When we were young and gay;
We chased the bees and plucked the flowers
In the merry, merry month of May.
Chorus:
Oh, yes, with ever changing sports
We whiled the hours away;
The skies were bright,
Our hearts were light
In the merry, merry month of May.
Our voices echoed through the glen,
With blithe and joyful ring;
We built our huts of mossy stones
And we dabbled in the hillside spring.
Chorus:
We joyed to meet and grieved to part,
We sighed when night came on;
We went to rest with longing heart
For the coming of the bright day dawn.
Chorus:
I hope your May is filled with sunshine, flowers & warm days Janice. May for us is autumnal, heading into winter. The trees are still losing their leaves here & it can be gloomy. But I still try to find the beauty in the season. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julie. I think there is beauty everywhere, in every season, if we know where to look:-)
DeleteThose colors are enough to make my heart sing. We're having a glorious end of April day with wind pulling the apple blossoms right out of the trees. I hope your May is all you wish it to be.
ReplyDeleteOur last day of April was simply lovely. Today is not quite of the same calibre.
DeleteTen un genial mes. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much:-)
DeleteI hope you do get lots of sunshine in your May spring time just as we do in our May autumn. Today we have blue sky as far as the eye can see,
ReplyDeleteA blue, blue sky really lifts the spirits :-)
DeleteHere we are experiencing one of the hottest summers in recent memory. For the first time in 41 years, the city of Bengaluru saw through the month of April without a single shower. April showers is a common phenomenon. But not to be this year!
ReplyDeleteApparently, May is going to still hot, before we get some respite with showers in the latter half of the month.
That doesn't sound good. I hope when the rains come, they will be moderate and not cause floods.
DeleteSuch gorgeous colours today. I regret to report that further north in Aberdeen, we start the month with the city shrouded in haar...
ReplyDeleteWe had fog this morning after a beautifully sunny day yesterday. Now, it's about to rain!
DeleteOur May has started off a little damp, but we do have many beautiful flowers bursting into bloom so all is still Merry...in a muted way.
ReplyDeleteEven on a dull day, the bright colours sing out.
DeleteHi Janice - welcome to May ... I do hope we get a few sunny days without showers - but perhaps I should be very grateful for the slow Spring. Love your photos - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI must say, today is a little muted, but, of course, we have a Bank Holiday coming up, so quelle surprise!
DeleteThat's nice and while seasonally inappropriate for me, the last four lines seem very appropriate for me.
ReplyDeleteOh, Andrew! x
DeleteMay the month of May bring you joy and beauty. I have enjoyed seeing the lovely flowers and your new pink back ground. We are experiencing way above normal temp, it is in the 80's this week and seems that we may not have our usual mid-May last frost. The farmers are finally planting corn fast as they can while we are experiencing dry weather after our wet April with more than 10 inches of rain.
ReplyDeleteYour weather seems very trying - I hope it settles down. The farmers need steady weather.
DeleteWhat great photos.
ReplyDeleteHappy May Day. Surely, the best month of the year?
Alison in Wales x
I do love May - it's such a hopeful month.
DeleteMay is the last month of autumn here, before the misery of winter starts on the 1st of June *shudder*. I took my winter clothes to the dry cleaner today, to prepare myself for the cold and wet.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to say farewell to fine weather. I hope your autumn and winter will not be too hard.
DeleteBeautiful flower photos! At last here today the weather is spring-like, almost giving a taste of summer, with temperature of 70 degrees. And the sun is shining. Bliss!! Did you write the poem? If so, my commendations. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSadly, I didn't write the lyrics. Stephen Foster (1826-1864) wrote it in 1862. He was known as 'the father of American music' (I've just looked this up!)
DeleteLet's hope it'll be a merry month indeed. Here in Belgium, it had a sunny start, plus it's a public holiday today! xxx
ReplyDeleteWe have a Bank Holiday coming up on Monday, so naturally, the weather is looking dire! Thunderstorms and rain last night with more promised today - what fun!
DeleteGreat pictures! I love spring flowers!
ReplyDeleteYes, spring has sprung:-)
DeleteLovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteI do hope we shall have some nice sunny May days ...
Unfortunately today has ended up very wet!
All the best Jan
We've had thunderstorms overnight and today doesn't look very inviting. Never mind, nothing lasts forever:-)
DeleteLovely photos. It's beginning to look a lot like Spring here. The trees are beginning to blossom and leaves are growing. My husband really likes this time of year with all the wonderful shades of green.
ReplyDeleteI agree, all the shades of green are wonderful, from yellow to almost black - quite amazing.
DeleteI hope May is a bright and sunny month for you.
