Ideas
‘If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.’
George Bernard Shaw
(1856-1950)
‘Great minds
discuss ideas; average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.’
Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962)
‘Ideas
are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty
soon you have a dozen.’
John Steinbeck (1902-1968)
‘If I have
a thousand ideas and only one turns out to be good, I am satisfied.’
Alfred Nobel (1833-1896)
‘It is not once nor twice but times without number that the same ideas make their appearance in the world.’
Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC)
Aristotle was ahead of his time, wasn't he?
ReplyDeleteThere's much wisdom to be found in the ancients (not this one, though ;-))
DeleteI'm not sure I've ever had an idea that wasn't mine to begin with. I seem to use a lot of other people's ideas.
ReplyDeleteWe all do. There's nothing new under the sun, just different ways of looking at them.
DeleteLove this. Thought provoking.
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Let's all rush off and have lots of world-saving ideas . . . 😃
DeleteThese quotes beautifully capture the power and value of ideas. Nobel's perspective reminds us that even a single valuable idea can be a significant achievement. A good compilation!
ReplyDeleteIf only there were more Nobels!
DeleteMy hubby does not like that word, as in...'I have an idea' or worse 'I have a plan. Interesting post.
ReplyDeleteYou've got to keep him busy . . . 😁
DeleteI do like Shaw's quote. Nobel was being falsely modest.
ReplyDeleteShaw's quote is a good one for children to understand.
DeleteWhen reading the Eleanor Roosevelt quote, I'm afraid I tend to think she must have been rather hard work to talk to. To my mind, ideas don't arise in a vacuum, they in part arise from considering events and, yes, even people!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Gail.
Eleanor Roosevelt was quite a difficult person, I think, and not very likeable.
DeleteI agree with you about where and how ideas originate.
Thank you! These are food for thoughts!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be nice to be someone whom other people quoted?
DeleteSome of my great ideas turn into duds, lol.
ReplyDelete. . . but not all of them, I'm sure.
DeleteWonderful quotes
ReplyDeleteI like John Steinbeck's best, I think.
DeleteNow I will imagine ideas like rabbits instead of lightbulbs!
ReplyDeleteIt's a more attractive prospect, isn't it? Something living and lively.
DeleteMy hubby always rolls his eyes when I say ' I have had an idea' or 'I was just thinking..'
ReplyDeleteI bet it doesn't stop you, though. '😉
DeleteI think I have always had a lot of ideas, but some people just have none, that's boring !
ReplyDeleteI imagine your head is full of ideas. 😀
DeleteGreat quotes!
ReplyDeleteI thought so, too. 😀
ReplyDeleteNice quotes about ideas.
ReplyDeleteQuite inspirational, I thought.
DeleteThe first two are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI like them all, but particularly the Steinbeck one.
DeleteGreat line by E. Roosevelt. I'm going to use it.
ReplyDeleteShe said some very quotable things.
DeleteBrilliant
ReplyDelete😀
DeleteThank you for sharing these quotes.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you, Jan.
DeleteI loved your post today - being human in a few short quotes. However those of us who have opened our minds and hearts to animals know our dear animal friends have ideas too😱🙄🤣
ReplyDeleteIf only they had words . . . but they make their thoughts clear.
DeleteThese are wonderful. I would love to share some of them.
ReplyDeleteThey are quite inspiring, I think, and encouraging.
