Ideas

Ideas

‘If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.’

George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)

‘Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.’

Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962)

‘Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen.’

John Steinbeck (1902-1968)

‘If I have a thousand ideas and only one turns out to be good, I am satisfied.’

Alfred Nobel (1833-1896)

‘It is not once nor twice but times without number that the same ideas make their appearance in the world.’

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC)

  2. I'm not sure I've ever had an idea that wasn't mine to begin with. I seem to use a lot of other people's ideas.

    1. We all do. There's nothing new under the sun, just different ways of looking at them.

  4. These quotes beautifully capture the power and value of ideas. Nobel's perspective reminds us that even a single valuable idea can be a significant achievement. A good compilation!

  5. My hubby does not like that word, as in...'I have an idea' or worse 'I have a plan. Interesting post.

  6. I do like Shaw's quote. Nobel was being falsely modest.

  7. When reading the Eleanor Roosevelt quote, I'm afraid I tend to think she must have been rather hard work to talk to. To my mind, ideas don't arise in a vacuum, they in part arise from considering events and, yes, even people!

    1. Eleanor Roosevelt was quite a difficult person, I think, and not very likeable.
I agree with you about where and how ideas originate.
