A bit of
nonsense
And all
through the land,
There was
moaning and groaning
And pinching
waist bands.
The
turkey’s not finished,
And nor
are the sprouts,
The curry’s
quite filling -
Of that there’s
no doubt.
Excitement
is dimming,
The presents
unwrapped,
We’re
tired with headaches –
Our energy
sapped.
So, look
to the future,
The New
Year awaits,
Goodbye to
the past,
We welcome
our fates.
A delightful and humorous take on the post-Christmas slump! I’m sure many can relate to the moaning and groaning after all the holiday feasting. I invite you to read my new blog post!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Melody.
DeleteYou've completely described my life this week :-)
ReplyDeleteHee hee!
DeleteQUITE DESCRIPTIVE OF WHAT ACTUALLY GOES ON.
ReplyDeleteToo much food, too few consumers - at least we don't have to buy anything in January!
DeleteOoooh...I don't know that I welcome my fate exactly.
ReplyDeleteWell . . . maybe not!
DeleteLol so funny!
ReplyDelete😁
DeleteMoaning and groaning sounds about right!
ReplyDeletePerhaps having a huge beanfeast is not such a good idea . . .
DeleteFunny and true, I like it.
ReplyDeleteRepeated throughout the 'civilised' world . . .
DeleteSo it probably does not come as a surprise that so many people put "losing weight" as their #1 Resolution for the New Year. It is certainly mine!
ReplyDeleteThat's a given!
DeleteA beautiful poem
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha!
DeleteSo very apt.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the Pepto-Bismol?
DeleteRepeat every year. It's so true.
ReplyDeleteIt's a first world problem!
DeleteAbsolutely love this, so very true, what day is it?
ReplyDeleteGood question!
DeleteThe poem certainly makes me smile. I imagine large families that have such big get togethers would think this was very apt.
ReplyDeleteVery true!
DeleteSpeaking of food and things, it's just about 7am, and I am steeling myself to go out grocery shopping at 8 when the stores open. I am hoping to be done before the hordes descend.
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising how quickly the need to go food-shopping comes round again after Christmas.
DeleteHaha, how true that is. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm sure yours was lovely - it couldn't be anything else with a baby in tow. 😄
DeleteThat sounds about right ... let's wish for a peace-filled New Year.
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteIndeed. The new year diet calls. But very quietly so I might not hear it for a while.
ReplyDeleteHard to hear the call above the sizzling of sausages and the rustling of sweet wrappers . . .
DeleteThat is a lovely and clever poem. Thanks for the share.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, Denise.
DeleteLovely - and wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year x
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Thank you, Alison - to you and yours, too.
DeleteHi Janice - so true ... thankfully I wasn't entertaining!!! but come Monday - I'll pop out and top up for another week. I'lll read this to the Read Aloud group I go to - helping elderlies and oldies enjoy some reading - based around a subject: presents feature!! Have a lovely time with one and all - cheers and hugs - Hilary
ReplyDeleteCheers, Hilary - enjoy your time, whatever you're doing.
DeleteThat sounds about right.
ReplyDelete😺😸😹
DeleteWishing you a happy New Year. My Christmas was quiet so no overstuffing this year for me.
ReplyDeleteVery wise. Our day was quiet but we still managed to overdo things.
DeleteFunny but oh so true :-) xxx
ReplyDelete. . . and we always say we won't do it again!
Delete🤣🤣🤣🤣 just great. Your composition?
ReplyDelete'Fraid so!
DeleteTrue. lol I hope you have a Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you, too.
DeleteThat is a good read, it certainly made me chuckle :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
