Ask for Janice

Ask for Janice

‘Ask for Janice’ is a cocktail bar and event venue that used to be located near the Barbican. It relocated to Tileyard Road near King’s Cross station in June of this year. My middle daughter was amused by the name.

There is another place in Brooklyn that goes by the same name, but there is no other connection. ‘Ask for Janice’ comes from the Beastie Boys’ album, Paul’s Boutique.

  1. I'm sure 'Ask for Janice' is very nice and comfortable bar, too.

  4. News to me. With or without your explanation, I would definitely want to go there. It implies a woman is in charge and that means (to me) it's likely a safe space.

    1. They'd only ask once - serving is not my forte.

  9. Not a Beastie Boys fan so wasn't familiar with Ask for Janice. Fun name for a bar though

  10. There's another phrase you can use, an Ask for ..., which means you are uncomfortable with the person you are with or a person is bothering you. Staff will then arrange a safe passage for you home. But I can't remember the name you're supposed to ask for! However i can't see myself as needing to use it so that's probably okay.

  11. What a catchy name! Catching up on your previous posts, I am ticklish. I had a dog once that absolutely loved to have his paws rubbed, you could almost see the smile on his face as I did it. I miss him.

  13. I don't know why, but that building looks like a hospital to me and I thought maybe Janice ran the admissions desk.

  16. I've never seen this place, but now I'll look for it! That's a great name, though I never would have made the Beastie Boys connection.
