Behave!
How often
in your life have you been instructed to ‘behave?’
Do you
behave?
Can you behave?
I’m not sure what ‘have’ means. Is it good, or quiet, or polite, or kind, or invisible?
When I’m told to behave, my answer is usually, ‘I’m being have.’
It is funny how we use expressions, say expressions, but never really stop to think what they really mean. Interesting thoughts
ReplyDeleteThinking without speaking is preferable to speaking without thinking. 😁
DeleteYour behaviour in creating this blogpost was quite appalling. Why can't you behave yourself young lady?
ReplyDelete😳
DeleteI might have been told that a few times, and I might have said it to others a few times.
ReplyDeleteLikewise.
DeleteRather like when we were all instructed to 'Be a Lert' during the covid lockdown...
ReplyDeleteI have a little book called 'I was raised to be a lert' written by a one-time blogger.
DeleteYou forgot to mention the look which goes with behave, my mum had it to perfection.
ReplyDeleteSometimes just the look was enough!
DeleteOften
DeleteI've never been told to behave by parents or teachers since high school. Presumably daughters who have gone overseas, moved into their own flat or concentrate on university are... mature-ish.
ReplyDeleteIt becomes more of a joke as one grows older.
DeleteI've been told to behave a lot of times. I do behave. Sometime badly.
ReplyDelete. . . and why not?
DeleteThe words that were always said to me " you better behave or else" . As a kid I'm not sure what either one of those two words meant, lol.
ReplyDelete. . . and no-one ever explained what 'or else' meant!
DeleteI'm interested in the reasons you are told to behave, rather than your smart **** reply.
ReplyDelete😇
DeleteSame answer from me. Oh goodness...no telling how many times this phrase is used each and every day.
ReplyDelete😁
DeleteThat's a perfect answer!
ReplyDeleteWhether I behave or not totally depends on the situation :-) xxx
Circumstances dictate responses!
DeleteI'd never thought of it this way - now I always will - great fun!

DeleteI wish I had a dollar for every time in my first 19 years of life being told to behave! I could buy a new car. evidently I can NOT behave. my mother used to grab my thigh in church and pinch and twist which was her silent 'behave" I love the way you look at thsi
ReplyDeleteDidn't it make you yelp?
DeleteI behave and misbehave; it depends on my mood!!
ReplyDeleteFree spirit!

DeleteI never thought about this meaning of behave. You re sending me to my dictionary. I've often been told to "behave myself.
ReplyDelete😁
DeleteWe used to tell my 94 year old father-in-law to "behave" when we would leave him. And of course, this rebellious old character would always ask, "why?" Ohhh, Pops!
ReplyDeleteAt that age, why indeed?
DeleteMy mother used to tell me to behave, or be a good girl. A teacher in comprehensive school used to say "4a2 will you please behave" She wasn't very confident!
ReplyDeleteTeaching teenagers must be like trying to tame hedgehogs! 🦔🦔
ReplyDeletelol! Everyone behaves . . . :-) xx
ReplyDelete. . . well or badly . . . 😉
Deletelol. I have been told to and have done so more when I was younger. Now I am grown and in charge.. how dare someone tell me to behave?
ReplyDeleteQuite so!
DeleteInteresting question actually. Why have or be have?
ReplyDelete😁
DeleteLOL I think I've been told/asked to behave a lot of times!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Is there anyone who hasn't been told so? Maybe not the people brought up by 'permissive' parents . . .
DeleteBehaving? What's that? Seriously, I tend to behave. Most of the time, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased to hear it.
