Crackers!
Crackers!
I decided
to check up on the Christmas cracker situation today. I thought we had drawers
full of them, but they’ve all vanished. Maybe they grew legs and pranced away.
I am currently munching on the edible kind of crackers, with cheese. I haven't bought Christmas crackers in a very long time, but there are always plenty at the twins house each Christmas. I have so many Christmas cards left over from several years, I think I will just use them all up this year before buying more.
A timely reminder to start working out what I need this year. I'm not hosting Xmas so no crackers needed. Christmas cards definitely though as I didn't bring any with me when I moved earlier this year.
I checked ours a week ago. Neither are easy to find here. Daughter is getting the crackers..... at one shop in Athens. Xmas cards ordered online. I only need 6. They've got to be sent pretty soon to get overseas before February. 4 euros each at the bookshop here, 70 cents online but the courier takes 2 weeks to deliver.
I keep all my early Christmas stuff in a wicker hamper, which is always the last thing to be packed away, it comes out every year after my birthday, I plan to bring it down from the attic this week. Inside are all my cards, gift bags and other stuff I require before December is here, most were purchased in January sales, I should have crackers in there.
Christmas crackers aren't among my traditions but I recently went hunting for some battery candles I bought last year. I even went down to the basement storarage room to look in my Christmas box there, but no. Eventually found them among my *real* candles in a wardrobe up in the flat, rather than among other electric/battery things...
It seems early to be thinking about anything for christmas. But when I look at the calendar I realize that there's not a lot of time left I guess. And since you have lots of family you have to be well prepared. Enjoy the hunt enjoy the season.
Crackers do make a festive table look extra nice don't they, I must get some too, I'm trying to decide wether to make cards as usual or take the easy option and buy some! Alison in Devon x
I am finding it hard to believe I have reached the age of 81 and never heard of Christmas Crackers and when I went out to see what they are, was shocked to see, Walmart, the store I have shopped in for 40 years has them. I thought you meant cookies and wondered how they would be put in a drawer. ha ha ha....
It's a good thing you've checked on the cracker situation well in advance. I should do the same with Christmas cards. I always think I've still got quite a stash of them, and it always ends in disappointment and a last-minute rush! xxx
I find that the ones I have left over from the previous year are never quite satisfactory. My preferences change from year to year, but this year I'm sticking with what I've got (which I really don't like!)
I buy them in the sale, put them away carefully and when I come to use them 12 months later - I have forgotten where I have put them. This means rushing around at the last minute to buy more. Obviously, as soon as Christmas is over I come across them.
Must have crackers, Christmas cards of course, and Christmas themed serviettes.
ReplyDeleteYou can go mad at this time of year with so much Christmas-themed 'stuff.'
Deleteoh that reminds me of xmas cards. i've bought a few from art exhibitions for family and close freinds. need to sort out the rest.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're put them somewhere safe . . .
DeleteSounds like you are crackers - long before Christmas comes round again.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely - all year round.
DeleteI always forget where I put things!
ReplyDeleteI knew where they were . . . but they weren't!
DeleteYes, you’d better get cracking with those cards.

DeleteOh, no! - CJ
ReplyDelete😱
DeleteOkay...are you sure that you did not crack all the crackers to get yesterday's jokes?😏
ReplyDeleteCould have done - but didn't!
DeleteDo you have kids? I know my kiddos find everything they aren't supposed to have.
ReplyDeleteCan't blame them - they've got their own stashes to worry about in their own homes.

ReplyDeleteI've mop found some cards. Goodness knows why I bought them, but they'll have to do.

ReplyDeleteWe've got two small gatherings around Christmas, not the huge bun feasts we used to have, thank goodness.
DeleteI read the title and thought 'bonkers' - how many words are there for not-straight-line-thinking?
ReplyDeleteGood jumping off point for a blog post . . .
DeleteYou remind me - must check my supply! xx
ReplyDeleteHope it comes up to scratch.
DeleteI bought my cards on Friday. No crackers though. I don't think I would be allowed to take them on the 'plane with me.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you're right.

ReplyDeleteYou really have to think ahead on your island, don't you?

ReplyDeleteEverything in our house gets shifted around to accommodate other people. A lot of it ends up in the garage . . .. no room for a car.
DeleteChristmas cards lurk in dark corners, completely missing until you've bought more.
ReplyDeleteAh, a fellow traveller . . .
DeleteFor me it's usually the other way around. I buy things and then discover I already had them
ReplyDeleteI've done that , too. 😃

ReplyDeleteI never think I shan't remember where I've put things, as it seems so obvious at the time, but other things impinge.

ReplyDeleteI really don't have that much to think about these days, but even so I find I spend an inordinate amount of time on things.
DeleteIt's certainly getting time to get the Christmas Crackers, Cards and Christmassy serviettes sorted ... not forgetting presents of course!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Monday :)
All the best Jan
It's like planning a campaign, really . . .

I always intend to make cards, but leave it too late.
DeleteThe season will be here before we know it!
ReplyDelete. . . and gone before we have appreciated it . . . 🌲🎅
DeleteThat time of year!
ReplyDelete😁
DeleteCrackers at Christmas !!! That's not the use in Europe as far as I know, it's done on New Year ! I don't care I would do it for both if asked !
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteI like them at any time.
I checked too this past week and was shocked we don't have any. Must put that right. We're okay for cards.
ReplyDeleteThe mind plays tricks . . . 😃
