The sweetest thing
We received a sweet Christmas card this morning from our youngest great-granddaughters, Melia and Hailey. It’s remarkably simple, and an example of how Nursery and Infant teachers (and parents) can help their charges effortlessly create a pleasing card.
The reindeer ‘head’ is a footprint decorated with ‘googly eyes,’ painted antlers, and a big red nose.
Our card is addressed to ‘Great Janice’ and ‘Great Barry’ – a compromise between Great-GrandMa/Pa and the parents’ wish to avoid what they may regard as overfamiliarity. I think it works, and it’s the only time we’ll ever be called ‘great.’

How darling and definitely one of a kind. I think the names Great Janice and Great Barry are very sweet.
ReplyDeleteThey are sweet, aren't they?
DeleteIt's a fun idea for creating cards! I am not sure I understand the wish to avoid "overamiliarity" - if there can't be familiarity between (great)grandparents and (great)grandchildren...?
ReplyDeleteOur grandchildren address us by our Christian names, but are a little unsure about their children calling us by them. The concern is theirs, not ours.
DeleteI understood it was theirs, not yours, just couldn't work out what they actually were concerned about. Thank you for explaining.
DeleteI like that mark of respect and using your names. Maybe when older, they will cheekily say Not So Great Janice.
ReplyDeleteThat would be accurate!
DeleteIt is a lovely card and being 'great' always boosts one's ego.
ReplyDeleteNice to be great for someone, even if they are under four.
DeleteThat is so sweet and very cleverly done.
ReplyDeleteTeachers can be very inventive, particularly if there are 30 cards to be created.
DeleteWhat a cute card that is. Such a clever idea
ReplyDeleteI thought so.
DeleteThe Greats ... so appropriate and accurate of course!! Love it - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha!
DeleteAww that is such a lovely and very special card . . .
ReplyDeleteand you are great :)
Have a wonderful Wednesday - it's a sunny day - at the moment here!
All the best Jan
Bright and dry here after rain yesterday. 😁
DeleteCute & personal all in one! :)
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteThose two little ones will grow up knowing that both of you are great. What a cute Christmas card.
ReplyDeletePerhaps they'll grow up to realise the truth . . . 😳😃
Deletewhat a great idea...and its really cute... not sure I understand the over familiar thing.. does that mean they don't want them to know you well?
ReplyDeleteNo, it's a question of what they should call us. We're happy with Christian names, but the parents think it's a little disrespectful, I think.
DeleteSo very sweet...a treasure to keep for sure.
ReplyDeleteIt will be kept!
DeleteMost perfect card to receive, we have tree ornaments made in the same way.
ReplyDeleteThose little hands and feet grow so quickly!
DeleteVery heartwarming

Thank you. 😊
DeleteLove the card. I didn't see the footprint until you mentioned it, but it makes for a great reindeer for Great Grandma-and-Grandpa!
ReplyDeleteI admit that I didn't immediately see the foot - now I can't unsee it!
DeleteWhat a clever idea! I'd be inspired to try it with my footprint, but then it would have to be a moose! 😹
ReplyDelete. . . and why not? 🫎🫎
DeleteReally a wonderfully clever card! Accept the honor of 'greatness' with pleasure when it is bestowed on you. LOL.
ReplyDeleteAccepted with pleasure . . . 😊
DeleteI have all the Xmas and birthday cards made by my grandchildren and I string them up at Xmas. They're hanging along the bookcase right now. Lovely memories
ReplyDeleteYour card is lovely. One of a kind as someone else said
Lovely decorations, and each one a special memory.
ReplyDeleteI do not have that kind of imagination. I didn’t even notice that the reindeer face was a footprint until you pointed it out. It was really clever and sweet that you were able to get a card like that..
ReplyDeleteIt made us happy.
DeleteAww isn't that the cutest.
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteWhat a fun card, and isn't it wonderful to be called great from time to time? xxx
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't often happen so we have to make the most of it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute card.
ReplyDeleteit is.
DeleteSweet card!
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteI love both the ornament and your honorifics.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteA very cute idea, and I like how you are recognized by your g-grandchildren :)
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky, we know.
DeleteWe did these with the preschoolers in my room.
ReplyDeleteWhen you've got dozens to make, it's a quick fix.
DeleteI didn't notice the footprint at first either, it's a great way to make a reindeer. No fuss about names for me, I'm Nanny to everyone.
ReplyDeleteI've stuck the google eyes on twice already!
DeleteSweet creative card sent to you with love.
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteSo cute. I remember having cards like that when our children were small.
