April birthdays
Image courtesy Wikimedia CommonsThere is only one April birthday in my family, and it is mine. There are two zodiac signs covering April, (mid-March to mid-April and mid-April to mid-May) Aries and Taurus. The first covers the dates from March 21st to April 19th. Taurus covers April 20th to May 20th. It’s entertaining to look at the different traits associated with each one and consider how appropriate they are.
There are people who take horoscopes very seriously. One of my nieces spends much time charting horoscopes. I look at daily forecasts for amusement, and choose the one I find most favourable to my circumstances at any given time. I have a similar approach to weather forecasts, and frequently seek out the one that is most amenable.
People born under the Fire sign of Aries are represented by the Ram, and ruled by the planet Mars. Though Mars looks hot and red, it is actually a cold, dry world. Ariens are said to be natural leaders, enthusiastically taking charge with confidence and passion. They are honest and outspoken, but can be impatient and moody. It sounds as though they act first, perhaps on impulse, and consider their actions later, maybe with regret. Maybe those curly horns are used to favourable effect.
Image courtesy Wikimedia CommonsThose born under the Earth sign of Taurus are ruled by Venus, which is the hottest planet in the solar system. The symbol for Taurus is the Bull. Its subjects are thought to be patient and devoted, but also stubborn. They dislike sudden change, and seek comfort and stability, to satisfy their sensory needs. They are not the ‘bull in a china shop’ I thought they might be.
Do you know your horoscope sign? Do your character and temperament align with it?

My oldest son celebrates his birthday today, as did my Granny. Both of them, I think, fit the latter description.
ReplyDeleteMy birthday falls on the cusp of Gemini and Cancer. I see traits of both signs in me. Like you, I choose the horoscope that I like best!
One of my daughters is a Gemini, and it quite suits her.
DeleteHappy birthday to you whichever day it may fall, Janice! I'm a Leo and many of its traits seem to fit me. As a child I lived with my mother, grandfather and dog Duke. All four of us were Leos in one small house. 🙂
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stephanie. Life in a Leo household must have been full of life and drama.
DeleteI was born precisely on the cusp (a few minutes after midnight) of Pisces and Aries - the end and beginning of the Zodiac. Like Granny Sue, I think I see traits of both signs in me...which makes the "extremes" in my personality a bit more understandable I guess ;-) And like you, I choose to "choose" the horoscope most favorable under the circumstances. Happy Birthday - belated, to-be, or spot-on.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Robin. I'm almost on the cusp of Aries and Taurus, and see many of their characteristics in myself, if I believed in such things, of course . . . 😉😟😏
DeleteI have many Aries in the family
ReplyDeleteI have a wide variety of 'signs' in my family, which makes life interesting!
DeleteI am cancer the crab & I most definitely retreat in to my shell quite often!!! I have a son who is a Taurus & my late Mum was an Aries. Both great signs Janice.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd be a tortoise or a snail, if there were such signs!
DeleteIn my entire family there is not one single Aries. There were two, but both have passed on. I am a Leo and some of the traits fit me and some don't. A magnet on my fridge says "Big Heart, Idealistic, Loyal, Generous", all me, but it also says "Powerful, Proud, Dramatic, Natural Leader" none of which fit me.
ReplyDeleteI suppose we should ask others what they think. Often, what family and friends see doesn't align with our own views of ourselves.
DeleteHappy April birthday to you, Janice!
ReplyDeleteI'm an Aries - just about, having been born at 1:15 am on the 22nd of March 1968. Like you, I consider horoscopes a source of amusement but do not take them seriously - in my opinion, it is impossible to sort humanity into 12 categories, even if they all have different sub-groups and ascendents and so on.
As a child, I was much more Aries-like than now; very impulsive and headstrong. My grandmother often said "your little horns are showing" when I was being stubborn to the point of aggressive. As most children, I learned to control my impulses and to get along fine with most people. Especially work at the library, with seeing so many people every day, some of them not happy with us when they had to pay a small fee for returning their books too late, taught me patience (to an extent) and being less confrontative (unless I deem it worthwile).
Confidence and passion, honest and outspoken still fits me. But I doubt that's so because I was born on that day :-)
Genetics and upbringing play much more importance in our character and development than what time of the year we were born, but it's harmless amusement.
DeleteOh, and thank you, Meike.
DeleteHappy Birthday 🎂 .. hope it was, or will be, a good day.
ReplyDeleteI am a Capricorn .. patient, hardworking, serious and dependable. Boring in other words!
Not boring at all - my youngest daughter is a Capricorn and so was my mother. Quiet, but definitely strong-willed and certain.
Delete. . . and thank you, JayCee.
DeleteHappy birthday, your description of Taurus is my older brother to a T, born on 21st, he passed away a few years ago after stubbornly ignoring a lump in his throat until it was way to later. I'm a Scorpion.....
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marlene. I'm so sorry to hear about your poor brother. There's a fine line between determination and stubbornness.
DeleteThe bit about Aries being outspoken fits me - causes no end of problems!
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha!
DeleteWishing you many happy healthy years.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteRick was Aries and nothing fitted, I am cancer and it's not right too. I do like you I read them for fun, and on New Year I cut out various horoscopes put one in an envelope and in a basket. Everybody had to pull out an envelope and read his destiny. That was fun because all signs were mixed up. In short I think horoscopes are nonsense.
ReplyDeleteI agree. That was an amusing exercise on New Year's Eve.
DeleteHappy birthday to you this month. Kind of nice that in your family you get to claim the whole month of April for yourself. Maybe a gift everyday?.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lynn. Every day's a gift anyway, isn't it? 😉
DeleteMy wife just had a birthday on 15 April. What is her sign? I haven’t a clue and I’m not sure she does either. We are coming up on twenty four years together and am sure we have nerve even mentioned astrology in that whole time.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your Aries wife. We're more interested in astronomy than astrology. There's not much science in the latter.
DeleteHappy Birthday month. I'm an Aries, born on March 21. I've always looked at Aries and Pisces to see which gave me the better horoscope. I'm like you though and only looked for entertainment. I honestly can't even think of the last time I read one.
ReplyDeleteNor me!
ReplyDeleteI am Aquarius and I do seem to fit MOST of what they say about me.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is an Aquarian, too, and it fits him very well!
DeleteI am born on the cusp of the cusp of Taurus and Gemini. Supposedly I share traits of both signs. I took this quite seriously as a teenager and read some of Linda Goodman's books. But what I came to realize is that no matter what sign I was reading about, I felt that it could apply to me. Shortly after that I realized my daily horoscope was wrong just as often as it was right. At 69, like you, I consider it an amusement, nothing more.
ReplyDeleteIt is funny when the supposed characteristics fit so well for some.
DeleteHappy birthday! I'm a Sag, but us Sags don't believe in horoscopes..
ReplyDeleteThank you. Son, one son-in-law and one grandson are all Sagittarians and none of them fit the descriptions.
DeleteHappy April Birthday x
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
Thank you, Alison.
DeleteHimself is a Taurus and the description matches him to a T. Happy Birthday 💐🎂🎈
ReplyDeleteThank you, CJ. Nothing wrong with being a Taurus!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Virgo and I suppose some personality traits often associated with those might be said to fit me - but then, when reading about other signs, the same goes for many of those ...
ReplyDeleteThe traits do seem to be interchangeable, sometimes.
DeleteHappy Birthday! According to my zodiac sign (I just looked), it seems to fit my personality, but I don’t follow my horoscope.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Denise. I only ever agree with the favourable traits.
DeleteAries seems to dominate my family. My husband, younger daughter, and son-in-law are all Aries. But my older daughter is an Aquarian and she takes a backseat to nobody. Meanwhile, I am Leo and above it all!
ReplyDeleteAries and Aquarius are supposed to complement each other. My husband is an Aquarian and he's managed to live with me for a considerable time. One of my grandsons is a Leo - he's very much his own person.
DeleteProud Taurean here (are there any other sort?) so my birthday is soon. Happy birthday to you for whenever your date is. The rest of my family are goats or crabs.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Happy birthday to you, too!
DeleteHappy April birthday!
ReplyDeleteMiddle Son is an Aries. He is nothing like the description associated with the sign.
Character is far more to do with genetics and upbringing than the star sign, but those who believe will not be persuaded otherwise.
DeleteHappy April birthday!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you, Jan.
DeleteHappy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteMy birthday is in February, I'm an Aquarius.
Just like my husband. Thank you, Mary.
DeleteI love my Birthday month of August.... I'm a Virgo but I don't know anything that it represents. Hope you are enjoying a fabulous Birthday month..
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shug. My second eldest grandchild is a Virgo, too. I don't think she's a typical VIrgo, if there is such a thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm a taurus. That description is really good lol
ReplyDeleteWe rams and bulls must stick together!
