What is special about June 26th?
In a non-leap year, it is the 177th day of the year. There are 188 days remaining until the end of 2026.
The next leap year is 2028, and in that year, 26th June will be the 178th day of the year.
It is a ‘national’ day for other causes, among them National Cream Tea Day and National Take Your Dog to Work Day.
It is also a national day for Beauticians, Canoes, Refrigeration, Chocolate Pudding, and Barcodes among many others. A thing which may seem mundane or even boring to one person is a source of interest and satisfaction to another.
Who knew such things?

DeleteIt is also the date we originally wanted for our wedding but didn't get, as we were about two years too late to reserve that date at the registrar's!
ReplyDeleteIt would have fitted so nicely, with our engagement on 25-12-25 and then the wedding on 26-6-26. But expecting 40C today, I'm really glad we were married in early May instead, with perfect weather on the day. Sunny and dry but not too hot for our wedding outfits and our mothers at 82 and 85 years old!
It would have had a lovely symmetry, but it would not have been enjoyable in the frazzling heat.
DeleteI would have loved to have heard of National Take Your Dog to Work Day in the years before retirement. My black Labrador, Emperor Rudolf, was the most beautiful, intelligent and sensitive dog in the southern hemisphere.

DeleteI did take the cat to my son's primary school class fot a show and tell... not quite take your dog to work......

DeleteAny day dedicated to cream teas and chocolate pudding is a very auspicious day. I'll celebrate with chocolate icecream...... which probably has its own day. Another big celebration!

ReplyDeleteSpeaking of wedding dates, ours in June 27, so this is our anniversary eve. June 26 was a very busy and fraught day for me 51 years ago. It will be a quiet day of celebration with family this year. So many memories...

DeleteIn our country, it is a special day because of how we write dates. Today is 6/26/26. Now read it backwards. It's a palindrome date, at least in the United States. Oh, if I only knew it was chocolate pudding day before now!

DeleteI found out too late that it was National Cream Tea Day on Friday but then who needs only one day to enjoy that treat. Those national days are quite fun to read but I agree that we wouldn't get anything else done if we followed all those 'special' days.
