Raindrops are falling,
Dripping on the wooden floor -
Must mend the ceiling!

Conservatory -
Roof made of transparent tiles
To give us great light.

Cats love it in there
Soaking up the intense heat,
Limp like empty gloves.

Haiku Friday

Sweltering indoors,
Blisteringly hot outside -
I don't like the heat!

It seems ungrateful to complain about the heat when we often don't have much of it. I love to see the sun but wish we could have a gentler introduction to greater warmth. As it is we go from pleasantly warm to frying almost in the blink of an eye and, as we live on a relatively small island, the humidity can be trying. (At this point in my regular moan-fest my husband patiently points out that Malaysia is FAR worse!)

Today is cooler, damper - a 'soft' morning as the Irish say - wonderful and so good for the skin!!

Haiku Friday – English Summer

Blue skies and sunshine
Give way to thunderstorm clouds
And heavy rain.

English Summer days –
All the seasons come at once
To upset our plans.

Barbecues and fairs
Fall foul of the elements,
So too school sports days.

We make do and mend
And take everything inside -
Cramped, wet and steaming.

We do not complain
For our green and pleasant land
Falls soft on our eyes.

Chattering Starlings
Gather around the feeders
Squabbling and whistling.

Youngsters feed themselves
Yet still beg food from adults
Who always oblige.

Something startles them -
They fly away as one dark cloud

Yesterday we were
Emptying out the attic -
Sweet memories there.



Children's first paintings,
Colourful daubs and splodges -
Jackson Pollocks, all.



Faded pressed flowers,
Mementoes of special times,
Bring joy and laughter.



Our love letters too
From courting days to marriage
Each other's best friend.



Photographs of friends
From our young and silly days -
Where are they all now?



School reports cause groans,
Old journals make us guffaw,
Baby toys bring smiles.



Mouse droppings abound,
Holes chewed in all our old clothes
Make throwing out quick.



We've kept many things
We couldn't bear to part with -
They're back in the loft!
