Why so noisy?
Someone on the local Facebook group asked why the local nudists were so noisy. This caused a good deal of mirth and prompted many questions and much speculation. Some people had no idea there was a gathering place for Crowthorne naturists and wanted to know where it was and how likely they were to stumble upon a group of nudists enjoying life.I discovered on its promotional website that ‘The Heritage Family Naturist Club’ has been active for eighty years and that some families have been enjoying its facilities for four generations. It is situated on four acres in local woods, and is enclosed by a high wall. All that can be seen from outside are the roofs and chimneys of chalets, and a multitude of ornamental trees. From within the walls come the sounds of people enjoying themselves, in a quiet, restrained way – no loud music or voices.
We were walking past with the dogs one day when Barry spotted an RAF flag flying from the flagstaff. He was intrigued by this and asked some friends of his, very senior RAF officers, if they knew anything about it. They didn’t, or at least didn’t admit to knowledge of it, but seemed rather pleased at the thought.
The Heritage has been a source of amusement and challenge for generations of local teenage boys trying and failing to climb high enough to catch a glimpse over the wall. Naturism is a harmless pastime. It must cost its participants a fortune in sunscreen creams, though.
You can
learn more about it here. What amused me was the sight of naked people wearing hats and footwear and there being a changing room for the sauna. How do you change your skin?
Noisy or not, I wish nudists would keep themselves neatly trimmed. Funny about the boys, just being boys. In the 1800s here the first female public toilet opened and boys would stand around watching women enter, no doubt with their imaginations in overdrive.
ReplyDeleteNow that is funny.
DeleteI imagine the changing room for the sauna is where they keep the stacks of towels for the after sweat showering. Hats to prevent sun damage to hair and scalps and shoes, probably sandals to protect from sharp gravel or biting insects? I could never be one of them, I don't even like being nude in my own home.
ReplyDeleteBodies are best kept covered but those that should be usually aren't!
DeleteFirstly l want to point out...I'm writing this
ReplyDeletefully clothed...Don't want to embarrass
anyone...
So what does a nudist do?
In the States, a typical nudist is a retired
person who just enjoys drinking a beer around
a pool and barbecuing..(make sure you wear an
apron)...with their nudist friends...
Where as in Europe you get people who are more
active...
They like to hike, they like to ride horses, and they
do a lot of family activities....
HeHe! Ride horses...? Jeeeese! Bet that brings a tear
to yer eyes...! :(.
And..Studies suggest that nudity reduces shame and
increases self-acceptance...
And France is the most nudist-friendly of all the countries..
So..dare l say it...It's 'NO' skin off my nose....! HeHe! And,
what on earth sun tan lotion has to do with it...Heaven
knows...! :O).

It's just not for me but plenty of people enjoy it, so, good for them.
ReplyDeleteI smiled at your comment regarding the Facebook post, on our local page it would start a full on conversation, with many different sides, jokers and those who would be offended, because that's what makes us human, the mix.
ReplyDeleteOften something that seems funny and inoffensive to some makes others rage - nowt so queer as folk!
DeleteI'm still intrigued as to why people in your local Facebook group considered the nudists noisy ... But then again, the things I read in our local Facebook often make me shake my head in disbelief! xxx
ReplyDeleteSome suggested it wasn't the nudists at all but other (clothed) people having a party. Who knows? x x x
DeleteNaturism is catching up around the world, I read somewhere. Here in India, nudity in public is illegal. But, it's getting popular here as well, with enthusiasts are finding ways to get around the rules and gather at meetups.
ReplyDeleteIf it does no harm and it's in private, there's nothing wrong with it.
DeleteI give up - 4 attempts at comment only to have all vanish before i get to hit publish. It only happens on your blog.
ReplyDeleteHow strange! I find Blogger does odd things to my comments at times, too.
