Let there be light!

Let there be light!

In the dark and often dreary winter mornings it is cheering to come downstairs into the light. At the bottom of the stairs the hall table holds a lighted tree and some candles while in the sitting room the Christmas tree lights glow a warm red.

We have a number of candles of various sizes, all powered by batteries. They were dotted all over the room and though they were pretty they didn’t make much of an impact.

Should we instal a prie-dieu?

  1. The display is beautiful and reminds me again that I have yet to buy any battery operated candles. I really like the tiny lights under the glass dome and the tiny tree.

  2. How lovely! It's nice, especially on these dark and dreary winter mornings and evenings, to have such a nice display of light.

    1. Indeed it is. It makes the short, dark days so much more bearable.

  3. There are very wide candles inside thick glasses that are blended with floral aromas. The room looks and smells wonderful.

    1. They are lovely but we steer clear of naked flames - singed fur doesn't smell quite so good.

  4. In the photos they look quite realistic and they are not smoking your walls.

    1. They are quite realistic. My son saw them and bade us be careful of the 'flame'!

    2. I was completely taken in by them at an Air BnB we stayed at one Christmas. I thought it was bold to leave lighted candles for our arrival and was stumped as to how I was supposed to snuff them (encased in some sort of mesh candle holder) when it came time for bed. I have never managed to find any so convincing when I have tried to buy them. Yours collection looks fabulous.

    3. Oh, how funny! I can imagine how frustrated you must have been!

  5. I like the battery ones because I really do not like all the perfume smell that's in wax candles. I think these look lovely and I would enjoy seeing them when I come down the stairs into a room.

  6. We have rechargeable batteries as they need to be changed quite frequently, mainly because we leave them burning night and day . . . I feel a song coming on!

  7. What a bright and lovely way to decorate your hallway and sitting room. I love the glow from the battery candles without the danger of a naked flame. I still enjoy wax candles but then there are no little people or pets to look out for here.

    1. I do love real candles, though, especially the scented ones. Still, safety first!

  8. That looks lovely, artificial or real - candles are essential on these dark, short days.........so much kinder and heartwarming than overhead glare.

    1. I agree. I don't like overhead lights at all.

  9. You have made me ashamed of myself. Your display is lovely. I have lots and lots of the candles and I love them. For some years they have been just about the only Christmas decorations I've had out. This year I have no one likely to visit over Christmas so only have my "Christmas Trees" and stars on display.

    1. We decorate for ourselves and if someone happens by, that's fortunate:-)

  12. What a lovely display! We have some of those battery-operated candles as well. I might steal your idea and group them together ... I'm also loving the glass dome with the tiny lights. I have done something similar in the past using a redundant snow globe! xxx

    1. There's so much available now to lighten and brighten the rooms - and not expensive, either. x x x

  13. Lovely! I’m also admiring your glass dome!
Just think, that years ago, people put candles on their Christmas trees and lit the candles…makes you wonder how many accidents there were!

    1. Well, there were no accidents in my childhood home and it was lovey seeing real candles in their little holders on the branches of the tree.
