The Entropy Gang’s Christmas 2024 blog

Herschel: The SERVANTS have been busy. They both went out the other day really early. We didn’t mind because we had our breakfast early too. Then the THINKER came back without the MAID.

Jellicoe: He took the DOGS for a walk, Roxy first, then Gilbert. We were a bit worried in case he forgot to give us our elevenses. It’s usually the MAID who feeds us.

Herschel: We need not have worried. I don’t think he would have forgotten for long, not with Jellicoe yowling round him and nipping his arm.

Jellicoe: I was just reminding him! Anyway, he soon went out again. Some people just can’t sit still.

Herschel: We were pleased when he came back, because the MAID was with him, and she gave us our threeses. So, everything was back to normal.

Jellicoe: They put up a tree for us to play with. At least, we thought it was for us.

Herschel: Gilbert’s tail swiped the dangling ornaments and made them dance . . .

Jellicoe: . . . so, of course, we had to tap them with our paws . . .

Herschel: . . . and before we knew it, the tree fell over!

Jellicoe: The angel at the top lost her head . . .

With her head tucked underneath her arm . . .

Herschel: . . . and it had to be glued back on.

Jellicoe: One or two of the baubles fell on the floor and the THINKER stepped on them . . .

Herschel: . . . but they’re not glass - we don't have those  ‘coz of little feet and paws.

Jellicoe: The MAID hadn’t been very happy with the tree anyway, because the lights had been put on last, not first, and the wires all showed up horribly . . .

Herschel: . . . so she had to take everything off and put it back properly . . .

Jellicoe:  . . . and that was all right, because the THINKER found some of the lost lights . . .

Herschel: . . . and now it looks much prettier . . .

Jellicoe: . . . until it falls over again!

    1. I'm sure it will. So far, it's still standing.

  2. Thank goodness your decorations weren't made of glass. Luckily my cat Otto hasn't shown any interest in baubles on the tree, but he is partial to cleaning his teeth on the bottom branches after eating a meal! Rose x

    1. Oh, how funny. Otto is a tooth-hygiene conscious feline, clearly.

  3. Now now Jellicoe, it won't fall over if you don't play with it. Those baubles are very tempting though....

    1. It seems to be Herschel who cannot resist patting them, the reindeer ones, particularly.

  4. To Herschel and Jellicoe: what do you mean, the tree was not meant for you? I have been rearranging mine and dislodging the toys from it since day one. I just love climbing it too but so far I haven't managed to make it fall over. Meows from Bess xxx

    1. Herschel and Jellicoe are most impressed that Bess climbs your tree. They're thinking of trying that themselves . . . 😺😸

  5. Lol ! reminds me of our Christmas tree decoration ! especially with the lights ! We also had plastic balls for the same reason, Arthur used to jump behind them when they bounced on the floor ! My 70 year old angel in her pretty golden dress had lost her wig ! Fortunately we found it ! Decorating with cats and dogs is real fun ! (after everything is done) ! I had my first "new Christmas on the 21 instead on 24 but I happily survived, we had a nice time a completely new Christmas ! But we all enjoyed it !

  6. Funny! The lights were found, so there must be many lights now, correctly placed. Your lot did you a favour.

  7. I'd say the Christmas tree decorating was a major event in your family. Lots of the help from the fur babies. Too bad the angel lost her head for a few moments. But I guess we humans do that all the time.

    1. The decorating does seem to take an inordinate amount of time! Fun, fun, fun!

  8. Do you wear a MAID's uniform - black with white frills and a Victorian mop cap?

  12. In days of yore, we tied our tree to handy hooks in the ceiling. Before that, the year that we had Shauna in the post I’ve been posting, every time I came home form visiting them in the hospital, I had to rebuild the tree. Lesson learned.

    1. How funny! Hooks in the ceiling sound like the perfect solution.

    2. They had been left there by the previous owners for swag lamps or whatever. We didn't use them otherwise, but we left them in place regardless.

  13. Although I don't know what 11's and three's are (United States here) we Americans certainly know there is never a dull moment with pets who think the Christmas tree is a fun toy.

    1. Elevenses are mid-morning snacks - maybe coffee or chocolate and biscuits. Threeses are the same , but at three o'clock in the afternoon.

  14. It's been years since we've had a cat who was interested in the tree, but thanks to our foster there are no ornaments on the lowest branches this year.

  16. Oh what a funny story. I remember the year that for whatever reason, the tree fell over a half dozen times. It was taken down the day after Christmas!

  18. Cats understand the Christmas tree is there solely for their entertainment. The lights on the outside would have annoyed me, I'm sure. Fortunately it was resolved for you. Cricket would love a "Cricket tree" but that won't be happening.

  20. LOL pets and trees don't always go together, hope the tree is still standing.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas, I will be spending time with family and the grandchildren ... and no cooking for me this year :)

    My good wishes.

    All the best Jan

  21. So very nice that the Servants give you time for your own speaking voices. Seeing things from your perspective is a total delight. So glad you got you’re your elevenses and threeses, and good that you give a reminder Jellicoe. These things are important! Ah yes, the tree! Oh dear and the angel looked so pretty but I’m glad her head was glued back on. The Thinker and the Maid certainly take care of your paws, that’s so thoughtful of them to buy non-glass items. Something we don’t think about without you lovelies around us. The Maid did what I probably would have done also. Please tell me, does she butter her bread corner to corner like I do? I also have to have things rather symmetrical. Anyhow, there are two of my secrets out. Sending hugs and best wishes to you dear ones and to your dear loved ones, the Maid and the Thinker, for a Very Happy Christmas. Please try to stay away from knocking the tree over again, at least until after Christmas, and thank you again for this delightful ‘tail’.
