Snail trail
The snail’s been busy through the night,
A perfect artist in slime.
A tracing
of silver, lacy, light,
Not leaves, not flowers, not quite right,
The mollusc’s wasted his time.
Ignoring my initial reaction of distaste, I had to admire the tracery on the lampshade. Where the snail was going, no-one can tell, and where he is now, no-one knows. The plants in the conservatory are undamaged, which is quite surprising.
The snail must have been in a state of confusion to make a trail like that.
ReplyDelete. This way, no, that way, no, turn round . . .'
Delete"A perfect artist in slime". Yes!
ReplyDeleteMind you, I remember some human artists who fitted your description.
😁
DeleteThe snail went on quite a journey.
ReplyDeleteIt did, poor thing.
DeleteIf I didn't know what it was, I'd say it was a lov ely design but ...
ReplyDeleteExactly. Context is all . . .
DeleteThat's actually quite cool in a strange sort of way lol
ReplyDeleteIt is. Clever little beast.
DeleteI see snail trails quite often but never on a lampshade.
ReplyDeleteIt's a first for me, too.
DeleteSnail trails resemble snout mucus that is dried out completely.
ReplyDeleteSimilar composition.
DeleteTo keep, to chuck or to clean, that's the next question 🤔
ReplyDeleteIt will be replaced. It's quite an old lampshade.
DeleteUmm... pretty but...yuck..
ReplyDeleteQuite! 🤢
DeleteSome people would pay extra money to get a lampshade that's been decorated so lavishly. It's still too cold here for our snails and slugs to start crawling about.
ReplyDeleteThere are compensations to cold weather . . .
DeleteIt looks okay from afar. 😀
ReplyDelete. . . the further, the better . . .
DeletePerhaps you have accidentally discovered an opening for a new craft. As well as silver snail slime trail lampshades there could be table mats, negligees, Christmas tree decorations and wedding dresses. All you have to do is gather a small army of snails and train them to follow your instructions.
ReplyDeleteSimple! I'm sure someone will do it.
DeleteIt's an interesting design until you know what it is. If a human left a trail like that I would definitely say he had too much to drink.
ReplyDeleteAn intoxicated snail - there's an idea!
ReplyDeleteOkaaay
ReplyDelete😁
DeleteThat can not have been comfortable for little snail- no moisture in that lampshade! Perhaps it is a message - A plea- poetry? It is interesting none the less- thank you for noticing!
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone would not have noticed. Oh, dear, my standards are slipping ever lower.
DeleteThe snails in my neighbourhood are still asleep.... still far too cold to get out of bed.
ReplyDeleteThey'll be ravenous when they wake up. Look out!
Deleteabstract art by a snail. I love it... they crawl on our sliding glass doors leaving trails but not pretty like this.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how far they travel, and on what!
DeleteI've never thought of photographing snail trails. It's almost that time where I live.
ReplyDeleteIt just took me by surprise.
DeleteActually, from afar that is a nice looking design ... what a clever snail :)
ReplyDeletePleased your plants are okay.
All the best Jan
It doesn't bear close contemplation, though, does it?
ReplyDeleteIt's indeed quite pretty in its own way, but where oh where did that sneaky snail go? xxx
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen it - I haven't actually looked very hard. I don't mind snails, but can't bear slugs - ridiculous, really.
