The cactus flower, stem and roots retain scarce water better than any other plant in our summer garden, and looks lovely when the other flowers and leaves hang dryly and dismally. But a weekly hose spray can make sure the cactus beauty lasts even longer :)
That is just beautiful Janice. Such a pretty colour & obviously likes it where you have placed it. Are you tempted to try to strike a cutting from the side of it - I know I would be.
Hi Janice - we're finding out what's flourishing this year ... butterflies for instance - but now your cactus - amazing ...and as you describe - cheers Hilary

Oh I love that cactus flower. My favorite color is lavender.
ReplyDeleteIt is a delicate colour for a delicate flower.
DeleteIt does look like a propeller and my mum would have loved that colour, she was a fan of pastel shades. I prefer stronger and deeper tones.
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful for anything that flowers! 🌸🌹🪻
DeleteCactus flowers are always so pretty. We have several in our sunroom that flower.
ReplyDeleteThey seem to appear so suddenly - at least, ours do.
DeleteWhat a beautiful cactus flower - nested propellers even.
ReplyDeleteQuite so. 😊
DeleteIt's a beautiful flower.
ReplyDeleteWe thought so, too.
DeleteCacti blooms are always especially beautiful. Maybe it's because of their contrast to those dangerous-looking spikes...
ReplyDeleteA horticultural interpretation of Beauty and the Beast, maybe?
DeleteWell, the cactus likes the heat, but I am not sure how many humans over there concur. We’re in yet another hot spell too. TG for AC.
ReplyDeleteMost of us don't appreciate the extreme heat - well, extreme for this little island, anyway!
DeleteThat's a lovely flower
ReplyDeleteWe thought so, too.

ReplyDeleteMost years, cactuses would never survive outside in UK. This year they might have done so.

ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of that, Julie. I may well try it. Thanks for the idea.
DeleteThat’s so pretty! 😀
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteThe flowers on a cactus always surprise me. So delicate
ReplyDeleteThey don't seem quite to belong, do they?
DeleteA beautiful colour.
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteIt does look like a propeller doesn't it. The softness of the colour and the petals contrast strikingly against the harsh spikiness of the plant.
ReplyDeleteIt is a striking contrast.

ReplyDeleteIt's been a very good summer for many things.
DeleteIt is absolutely lovely. I've never seen a cactus with a blossom like this.
ReplyDeleteI'm just surprised and delighted that it's flowered, and to flower twice is a real gift.
DeleteThat is a beautiful flower. Not sure I've ever seen a cactus in bloom.
ReplyDeleteWe''ve been lucky this year.
DeleteWhat a pretty bloom that is.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it?
DeleteThe perfect name for this beauty. The cacti family has some gorgeous blooms!!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see them in the desert.
DeleteWhat a beautiful cactus! Much bigger and more ornate than the flowers I get on mine.
ReplyDeleteCactuses are surprising - you never know what you'll get, if anything!
DeleteIt is lovely
ReplyDeleteWe thought so, too.
DeleteA beautiful cactus flower and I'm glad it enjoyed the especially hot weather we had recently. It does look like a whirring propeller doesnt it!
ReplyDeleteI think the weather suited it. It did get very hot in the conservatory.
DeleteAt least something is appreciative of the hot weather! xxx
ReplyDeleteNot everything wilted . . .
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous bloom! I have bought three small ones and never thought they might bloom. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty. Such a delicate color
ReplyDeleteThat would win in my flower show
