Doing the wrong thing
Doing the wrong thing for the right reason is as bad as doing the right thing for the wrong reason. Either way, we upset people without intending to, so it’s probably better to do nothing at all, unless we’re absolutely sure we’ve got everyone’s best interests at heart.
This, too, shall pass.
Intentions are also important, I think.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, but sometimes people don't realise the intentions were good.
DeleteI've made mistakes like this in the past and now, if I am not sure, I will ask before doing or not doing anything for someone.
ReplyDeleteI doubt if anyone is ever right all the time.
DeleteSorry. Hopefully everything will work out.
ReplyDeleteSigh - that comment was mine. Apparently I wasn't signed in and my comments are anonymous (I made another one too!)
DeleteThank you. I'm sure it will.
DeleteI used to feel just sick inside when there was an issue with someone. I tried very hard to set things right, which usually just made things worse. I am now at the point that I simply wait for signs that the other person is receptive to listening. Until then, I keep my thoughts to myself.
ReplyDeleteTrying to put it right often makes it worse, as the upset person gets even more upset. Keeping it zipped is best.
DeleteIt will all pass
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Delete"Doing the wrong thing" will almost always turn out wrong in the long run.
ReplyDeleteTrue!
Delete??? Apparently, I have missed something here.
ReplyDeleteNo, that's it - no explanations or accompanying text . . .
DeleteSometimes waiting is best, sometimes I say nothing and think it over for perhaps later saying something. The Bible says watch what you say, thoughtless speaking can be damaging. So true.
ReplyDeleteAlways engage brain before mouth.
DeleteI know that feeling well. You feel miserable until it's finally resolved.
ReplyDeleteYes. It certainly spoils the atmosphere.
DeleteKeep your head down until it passes.
ReplyDeleteGood advice!
DeleteI can so relate to this. I've done the wrong thing on plenty of occasions.
ReplyDelete. . . and it's never intentional . . .
DeletePointed, and quite personal. I'm quite sure you've never intended to do a wrong thing.
ReplyDeleteI rush to action . . . not always a good thing to do.
DeleteI always hope that I'm doing the right thing for the right reason. But you never know the other person's perspective.
ReplyDeleteQuite so.
DeleteI'm far too quick to do/say the wrong thing - gets me into trouble often.
ReplyDeleteHope you are right that all things pass - eventually
Better that than to be a door mat . . .
DeleteMy mum was elderly but healthy yet a relative asked mum's doctor, in front of me, to euthenise (spelling?) my beloved mum:( I did the right thing and called the police, but I forbade my children and grandchildren from ever speaking to the relative again. Ten years later they are angry with me for doing the wrong thing ...for controlling their behaviour.
ReplyDeleteThat is appalling. Your reaction is completely understandable and correct - your poor mum.
DeleteThinking of you
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
Thank you, Alison.
DeleteYup, people get upset and as you said, don't realize the intentions are good. My comeback to them as I am being yelled at is: Be grateful that someone gives a ...cares enough about you to worry or be concerned.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, of course.
ReplyDeletethe answer is there is no answer because we are dealing with other humans, anything goes or does not go.. hope it turns out ok
ReplyDeleteHumans are such a nuisance sometimes . . .
DeleteThat's where I'm at... this too will pass. Thank you
ReplyDeleteI hope your difficulties are soon resolved.
DeleteHumans are unpredictable and can truly never be pleased. As a former "people-pleaser" about 30 years now from that compulsion, I care more about pleasing my Lord. I hope it works out. Hey it's the holidays, that is when family dysfunction rears it's ugly head in family and friends!
ReplyDeleteYou're so right - family gatherings can be a nightmare of treading on eggshells.
Deleteother humans also have a responibility to you - to try and understand. Interpersonal stuff that goes wrong isn't all one side's fault.
ReplyDeleteThat is true, but sometimes a little forethought prevents misunderstandings. 😁
DeleteI know the feeling, I've done both without meaning to upset. But we're all human so these things do happen unfortunately. xxx
ReplyDeleteThey do, and being 'perfect' as some people appear to be, is so irritating! 😃😱
DeleteI'm sure everything will work out...in the fullness of time they eventually do!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you, Jan. That little storm cloud seems to have passed for the moment.
DeleteWrong or right, I would certainly do something better or right then nothing at all !
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's better to wait . . .
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, I get this!!!
ReplyDelete😳
