Amaryllis progress
The plant I bought before Christmas is slowly opening one bud. There is no colour showing yet. The bud on the shorter stem looks as though it may not come to anything, but I’m happy to be proved wrong. The two bulbs I planted are showing signs of growth. Each one has a small area of green emerging from the bulb. The conservatory bulb is less advanced than the one in the sitting room, though that may not be significant in the long run. At this point I cannot see them ever producing anything more than green leaves, but time will tell.

Even green leaves during the winter can be nice, but I hope you end up with beautiful flowers.

Janie
The last time you posted about your amaryllis I became so fixated on wanting one ... I did look in to buying a bulb here & when to plant etc ... then Christmas came & I got busy.
ReplyDeleteNow I have seen yours I want one all over again. It is not something I have ever grown & I would love to give it a try. I shall make some more inquiries - thanks Janice. xx
It's lovely to see things grow, especially something like the Amaryllis.
ReplyDeleteThat quiet, tentative greening feels like a promise rather than a conclusion
ReplyDeleteI hope ALL your Amaryllis bulbs bloom and thrive.
ReplyDeleteEach time a flower blooms, it's still a delightful surprise. Looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteObserving the growth and then opening of a flower is a small miracle every time.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteSoon ... soon ...
ReplyDeleteOne of mine is in bloom, bright red, the second new one has only leaves forming so far. I have two in my greenhouse from last year, both have small shoots. I always think they look alien at the bud stage.
ReplyDeleteI had my first ever amaryliss for Xmas....it is a waxed bulb. It has already flowered and just 2 blooms left on the stalk. I shall try and keep it for next year as it is a lovely pinky red.
ReplyDeleteHi Janice - they are lovely ...and you're having fun watching (v slowly) it open - just enjoy! Cheers Hilary
