Amaryllis progress
The plant I bought before Christmas is slowly opening one bud. There is no colour showing yet. The bud on the shorter stem looks as though it may not come to anything, but I’m happy to be proved wrong. The two bulbs I planted are showing signs of growth. Each one has a small area of green emerging from the bulb. The conservatory bulb is less advanced than the one in the sitting room, though that may not be significant in the long run. At this point I cannot see them ever producing anything more than green leaves, but time will tell.

Even green leaves during the winter can be nice, but I hope you end up with beautiful flowers.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
That's true - it's always good to see growth.
DeleteThe last time you posted about your amaryllis I became so fixated on wanting one ... I did look in to buying a bulb here & when to plant etc ... then Christmas came & I got busy.
ReplyDeleteNow I have seen yours I want one all over again. It is not something I have ever grown & I would love to give it a try. I shall make some more inquiries - thanks Janice. xx
Let me know how you get on, Julie. I decided to try amaryllis after reading and seeing other people growing them. That's how our interests expand, isn't it?
DeleteIt's lovely to see things grow, especially something like the Amaryllis.
ReplyDeleteHouse plants give a great deal of pleasure.
DeleteThat quiet, tentative greening feels like a promise rather than a conclusion
ReplyDeleteIt does promise much.
DeleteI hope ALL your Amaryllis bulbs bloom and thrive.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elsie. So do I!
DeleteEach time a flower blooms, it's still a delightful surprise. Looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteSlowly opening flowers are a delight.
DeleteObserving the growth and then opening of a flower is a small miracle every time.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteIt is indeed.
DeleteSoon ... soon ...
ReplyDelete🤞
DeleteOne of mine is in bloom, bright red, the second new one has only leaves forming so far. I have two in my greenhouse from last year, both have small shoots. I always think they look alien at the bud stage.
ReplyDeleteThey are certainly worth waiting for.
DeleteI had my first ever amaryliss for Xmas....it is a waxed bulb. It has already flowered and just 2 blooms left on the stalk. I shall try and keep it for next year as it is a lovely pinky red.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds lovely. They come in such a variety of colours now.
DeleteHi Janice - they are lovely ...and you're having fun watching (v slowly) it open - just enjoy! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI'm watching them now and I'm convinced they have grown this morning.
DeleteIt's fun to watch the progress
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteLooking forward to when it blooms and you post a picture of the beautiful flower.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping . . . 🤞
DeleteIve only ever tried to grown one. I was unsuccessful.
ReplyDeleteBad luck!
DeleteHopefully the color comes through!
ReplyDeleteI'm an optimist - most of the time.
DeleteIt's a wonderful progress. Hoping you get a really nice flower.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking good and strong at present.
DeleteI predict that you are going to be surprised Janice. The amaryllis was one of God's most successful creations... unlike orange face paint, "The Daily Mail" and COVID19.
ReplyDeleteWhat else do you forecast for this year, Neil? Something good, I hope.
DeleteI'm not sure, when my amaryllis blooms. I just wen out to have a look. Green leaves only. They are beautiful when that flower opens
ReplyDeleteIt's growing. That's the main thing.
