Green for Go!

Green for Go!

Green is an energising colour. It’s all around us in the trees and the plants.

A green traffic light tells us it’s safe to proceed. People even say they’ve ‘given something the green light,’ meaning that they accept the proposition, whatever it may be.

The green light on our vacuum cleaner operates at floor level and tells us something different. It highlights every particle of dust. Operating the vacuum cleaner is quite mesmeric, as it shows a never-ending quantity of small detritus to be sucked up from our hard floors.

We have animals so there is fur and dust in abundance.

It is not the gadget for an obsessive homeowner, because however many times the machine is passed across the floor, there is always more to be picked up.

Vacuuming in our house is a Sisyphean task.

  1. Green is such a happy color. Even when it indicates that we're picking up for, lol.

  2. There are so many different shades of green, especially in Spring.
I don't miss all the dog and cat hair I used to have to vacuum up. When daughter and dogs visit I find it for weeks lol

    1. I love all the shades of green , from palest lemon-green to darkest almost black. Simply beautiful.

  3. Green is probably my favorite color ... all shades.

And even though we're down to just two cats the amount of fur and dust never seems to diminish.

    1. It's amazing, isn't it? Vacuum or sweep up, turn around and there's a mountain of it again.

  4. Yes, vacuuming in a home that has a Labrador in residence can be very challenging on a daily basis πŸ˜‚

    1. They have enough fur to spare and share around.

  5. In our house vacuuming should be a daily task, but the grey carpet hides much of the debris in between more sporadic attempts.

    1. I sometimes (often) wonder why we bother - it's all there to do again later the same day!

  6. A "Sisyphean" vacuum cleaner? Hell, I am green with envy. Ours is just a Dyson.

    1. I don't enjoy vacuuming stairs, but this makes quite a good job, skirting round the pulled bits where the cats have used them as scratching posts . . .

    1. Isn't that always the way? It seems that if you catch one red light, you catch the lot!

  10. Our second oldest grandson learned early. At the age of 3 he would sit in his car seat in the back seat watching the traffic signal, and the instant it changed he would call out, "Green! Go, go, go!".

I think that gene came from his grandmother, who is a living example of the maxim, "He who hesitates is lost". I'm only kidding, but only sort of.

That was me, sorry. I wonder how many will know the Sisyphus reference.

  12. I learned years ago when our children were still small that it was impossible to vacuum all the detritus from the floor. But if the vacuum didn't find it, the children surely would!

  13. When the kids were younger, we would take them to Center Parcs and then into the centre of the forest - not something I would really do every day and the effect of almost 100% green was stunning

  15. My robot vacuum cleaner has a few different lights and colours to show. I don't like the red one, indicating it is unhappy about something.

  17. Green is my favourite colour, we have wooden floors, so dust is always present.

  18. I prefer hard floors to carpet - easier to keep clean, although always showing up every speck.

  19. Green is such a happy color. Half of my house has carpeting and the other half hard wood floors. I see the dirt way more on the hard floors but I like it better than the carpet.

  20. I went on finding cat hair for years after my cats had gone. But I was able to cut back my cleaning crew to once a month, one person, no pet household with mainly hard floors.
