Every day’s a special day
Did you know that yesterday was National Ballpoint Pen Day? Among other things it was also Magna Carta Day and Beer Day Britain, two inconsequential occasions and one historically important.
Today is National Fudge Day and International Day of Family Remittances. One is for fun and the second underlines something of vital importance.
The International Day of Family Remittances is observed annually on 16th June. It marks the financial contributions from over 200 million migrants to their families to improve their lives. Half the remittances go to rural areas. Though they may be of small value individually, they are vital to the developing world and are three times larger than official global assistance for development. They help to educate children and provide medical care.
