Succinctly Yours Week 25

Grandma's Goulash at Succinctly Yours hosts this microfiction meme.

Each week she posts a photographic prompt for inspiration and the challenge is to write a story using no more than 140 characters or words. Below is this week's photo followed by my offerings.

As an extra challenge, a word is offered for inclusion and this week’s word is methodical.

She had been taught at kindergarten to be methodical. The lesson deeply ingrained, even thirty years later, she had to find a fence to park.

Two cars, a horse box and a trike – were they encouraging their four-year-old daughter to be materialistic?

  1. Lessons learned early in life do often stick with us! Judging by my 17-year-old daughter's room, she didn't pick up that particular trait. LOL On the second MF, I'd say the little one has more than she needs, or is practicing for her future as an overpaid rock star. :)

  2. "Two cars, a horse box and a trike – were they encouraging their four-year-old daughter to be materialistic?"

Either that or they're fueling "Hell on Wheels" syndrome!

(Both are great takes; thanks for doubling our pleasure!)

  3. Funny incorporation of all the elements of this picture, in the first one. Then the second one has an interesting question, that is if it really happened. Oh, where does that leave the grown-ups??????

  4. I love both of these! You captured different facets of the picture creatively!

  5. Oh god, I wouldn't even know where to begin. Yours are great though.

  6. "Methodical" is a word I ignore in all languages ! I don't think that a 4 year old knows what materialistic is. That comes 10 years later !

  7. I chuckled at the last line, thinking "methodical" would apply to lining up the cars, but it turned out to be parking at a fence...thanks for the laugh!

I think most kids today have WAY too many toys (I'm thinking of my small grandsons), but often it's all the loving relatives who shower the kids with toys.

  8. Both are clever interpretations--early lessons last a lifetime, don't they? Materialism or specialization...I wonder

    :)

  9. Very creative both of them. Consumerism starts young for sure.

  10. Finding a fence for parking — I love it!

  12. Loved both of those, they fitted the picture just perfectly! Well done.

  13. I am just imagining this poor woman driving around, block after block, trying to find a fence so she can park. Too funny!

  14. We never know what we are teaching our children. Probably not wheat we intend. It reminds me of the kitten who liked to climb curtains. As punishment, the kitten was put outside whenever it climbed one. As an adult cat, it climbed curtains whenever it wanted to go outside!
