Every day, something new . . .
He can hardly wait to investigate the contents and I’m sure he thinks he is helping.
It the parcel contains something food-related, like ‘Whimzees’ dog chews, or ‘Thrive’ cat treats, he becomes ever more attentive. Sometimes, if he is very lucky, he might receive a treat, and so might Roxy, who is always watching.
Occasionally, a box may contain plants, and they are especially fascinating. Dogs learn so much through their noses and are often to be found burying their heads among the plants, either in the garden or the conservatory.
Once the contents have been revealed, Gilbert is happy to resume whatever he was doing beforehand, usually sleeping.
last photo is the sweetest ever. It makes my heart swell to twice its size- that sounds like a possible hospital visit but , no, it is the good kind of swell.
ReplyDeleteThey bring us much joy.
DeleteYin yang cat and dog!
ReplyDeleteCompanionship - sometimes enforced by cats!
DeleteI love the cats and dogs together!
ReplyDeleteThe cats seek out the dogs, rather than the other way round.
DeleteI can only echo your other commenters. Wonderful picture!
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteHow very precious that last photo is. He appears to have the most wonderful nature does Gilbert - he is so sweet. xx
ReplyDeleteHe has a lovely temperament - a very gentle boy.
DeleteLove them sleeping together, brings back memories of our German Shepherd sleeping in the sun with the cat between his paws and the galah (bird) on his back. Lola rarely shows interest in parcels.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of the three of them must have been wonderful.
DeleteOh Gilbert, always sure to make me smile.
ReplyDeleteHe really is a sweet dog.
DeleteYour beautiful dog could work at the airport, sniffing around passengers as soon as they land.
ReplyDeleteI think he'd be sniffing for treats, though. He could be a friendly welcoming party, though.
DeleteHe's got such an expressive face!
ReplyDeleteThe ears have a tale to tell, too.
DeleteI love to see pets snuggling together, we only had two cats who would sleep together, all the others found their own spots.
ReplyDeleteOur current two don't sleep together, although they're brothers. .
DeleteGilbert’s parcel enthusiasm is adorable; his curious nose and hopeful excitement make every delivery a little event, even if he’s just as happy to nap afterward.
ReplyDeleteWe have to be careful when opening parcels with a knife, as Gilbert's nose is so enthusiastic.
DeleteThe last photo is adorable.

DeleteIt looks like the old joke about the cat scan and the lab report! Please pass on gentle scritches to both of your gorgeous pets.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Gilbert here. I love receiving parcels. Oh the anticipation ...even if it's only a replacement filter for the fridge.
ReplyDeleteThere's always the chance it might be something more exciting . . .
DeleteAt least he doesn't open them himself. Mr T enjoyed disemboweling parcels.
ReplyDeleteHe would, if he were left to his own devices . . .
DeleteSounds like you should rename Gilbert. Call him Parker instead... as in Nosy Parker!
ReplyDeleteCan't rename him now - it took long enough to get used to calling him Gilbert, rather than Bertie.
DeletePrecious love to smell the envelopes out of the mailbox everyday. Animals have such a curiosity and in their wild world a need to know where the smell comes from. I hope Roxy's foot has healed by now. And that Jellico is doing okay. My friend's dog had to go back and have a bone chip removed from his foot but thankfully he did not lose his foot. It just would not heal and stayed infected. He's still on antibiotics almost 3 months later.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that sounds nasty. Three months is a long time to recover.
DeleteRoxy and Jellicoe are both fine now, thank you.
How cute. Gilbert reminds me of a dog I had years ago. He was a chocolate lab named Winston. He loved to open presents and it was as much fun for us watching him as it was for him opening them.
ReplyDeleteSweet memories.
DeleteGilbert's a nosey boy, likes to know the goings on, haha. How lovely that they all get on so well together, dogs and cats.
ReplyDeleteGilbert is nosey, like most dogs. He just doesn't try to hide it!
DeleteDo you ever wish that you had the olfactory senses of a dog? It would be interesting to experience once, but I do not think I would like it as an ongoing experience. Gilbert is very cute, I would send him a package just to imagine the joy it would bring him.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be overwhelming, so I'll pass, thank you. 😂🤣
DeleteSounds like our Bess, who is always ready to help with parcels :-) xxx
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteA lovely photo essay.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteHe has a unique personality. Nice to see the pets sleeping together.
ReplyDeleteHe's such a funny boy, a really sensitive soul.
ReplyDeleteAww, how sweet. Gotta love Gilbert's curiosity.
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteMy dog likes when packages come too because sometimes they're for him.
ReplyDeleteThey're not daft, are they?
DeleteAww just love that last photograph.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Relaxation!
DeleteThis is a children's book waiting to be written. He must LOVE Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHe does, and he loves children, too.
DeleteWhat a lovely photo and a great story to match!
ReplyDeleteThank you. 😊
ReplyDeleteSweet photos of Gilbert investigating the latest parcel to arrive at home. He is such a wonderful character and like everyone else has said, I love the restful pose with Jellicoe ,after all investigations have been completed.
