Developments

Things are moving fast in the USA. It looks as though the administration is about to be overhauled and some elements removed and potentially imprisoned, Pam Bondi, for one.

One of the most astonishing things is that Trump is set to sue the Treasury for $10 billion dollars, to compensate him for the distress caused by the leaking of his tax return information. Extraordinary! American presidents are expected to declare their tax returns and always have done so. Trump’s naked greed is rampant.

Watching the breaking news on Thursday evening, I expected to see it making headlines in all the papers and news outlets on Friday morning. It didn’t. I began to think I had imagined it.

I note that more Epstein files have been released. The cynic would suggest that such a release is a means to distract attention from current events. Will the 25th Amendment be invoked, or will Trump survive to stumble and ramble through another day, week, month, year?

Great Britain’s politics pale by comparison and seem very parochial. We seem to be grateful to be acknowledged by more influential countries as they continue their rise to the pinnacle. Our time in the spotlight has passed.

  1. There's so much focus now on Minneapolis that the Epstein files seem almost forgotten. It feels like more horror is foisted on us just to distract us from the aggravation we've been facing every time we turn.

Dept. of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem needs to be removed immediately. And now Trump is threatening Cuba? Is he doing this to distract us from the horror of Minneapolis? How much more of this can we take?

    1. Every day brings more unthinkable events.

  2. If it wasn't so serious for so many ordinary lives it would be comic - remarkably if it was fiction it would be so unbelievable as to be a non-starter. How do countries find themselves unable to remove such blatant incompetence and partisanal power-holders?

    1. Politics is a strange 'game' - it's like a house of cards - one false move and the whole structure collapses. Politicians find their beliefs and attitudes compromised and are forced to see the bigger, uglier picture.

  3. I am slightly appalled in this country as to how our media doesn't talk about it. But there are obvious signs that he is losing - not only his marbles but the game as well. I think the nuclear button has been removed from his grasp.
First news this morning, the Epstein files, Andrew crouched over female (for crying in a bucket, it is not important).
But, the EU have played #47, the Northern countries are gathering closer together and Carney strikes out from Canada. Poor America with such a sleaze person at the helm.

    1. Carney is an intelligent and articulate man. Europe will hold firm against the dictator Trump and his minions. China will become the most powerful nation in the world and we will know where we stand with it.

  4. Rampant greed is not an attractive quality in anyone, let alone a powerful, mega wealthy head of state.

    1. It is not attractive, but isn't money the goal for so many, along with fifteen minutes of fame?

  5. Oh how I wish that it would all end soon, but I fear the end, when it comes will be very messy.

    1. It will not end with a whimper, I fear. I feel so sorry for decent American people, who just want to live a life free of worry and dictatorship.

  6. Politics is a rich person role if you want to get to the top, that's why Trump has so many evil men in his inner circle, everything is about money and 'the deal' I don't think America can survive 3 more years with him in charge, and the world can not hold it's breath that long. I do feel for the good people of America, they deserve so much more.

    1. It's a truism that power corrupts. Combined with greed it becomes almost unassailable. This tyranny must end.

  7. I read your post and all the comments and agree with every word and I fear we will not survive this here in USA.. 53 million people voted for him, and now it appears most of them still support him, I will never understand, unless they are not watching him on TV

    1. The MAGA movement is a cult and its members are blind to facts. It's not really surprising, when their leader lies at every twist and turn and states his own opinions as fact.

  8. The president here at home is not a person I ever voted for. And I disapprove of the way he acted in the previous four years and he's no better now.

  9. Along with Bondi, dog killer Noem needs to go, along with couch fucker Vance. But that is only a start. The vax denier Kennedy needs the chop too. Just don't get me started, although not my country and not my business.

  10. I agree - it's not my business, either, but the actions and decisions of the US administration affect us all.

  12. It's a shame that politicians don't put all that energy into serving the people they were elected to serve rather than trying to destroy each other in their struggle to gain money and power.

  13. We in the United States made a choice and the world is suffering for it. Too many of his supporters here still support him. It's the Chaos Presidency. On the 250th anniversary we are celebrating this year, we are seeing the Great Experiment die, if we don't change direction and quickly.

    Sad.

  18. Charming thoughts though they are, I believe you've read some misleading news. The administration is definitely not about to be overhauled, whatever that means, nor are top officials on the brink of being arrested. I can't even imagine on whose authority that scenario would play out. There is a long road ahead and much work to be done; in the meantime the bad guys will continue to do a lot of damage. They're not leaving yet.

  19. That's disappointing, but change comes slowly.

  20. Interesting to read. My political thoughts and beliefs are much different from many blogging friends and this is okay. For this reason, I will say that I am trusting the Lord in all things.

  22. It truly appalls me to realize that a majority of voters in the last presidential election voted for this! They just couldn't bring themselves to vote for a supremely well-qualified woman and so here we are. Be very thankful for your "parochial" politics.

  26. There's a picture in someone's sidebar (canwehaveanewitchoursmelted.blogspot.com) of a pair of hands held in a heart shape with the words, "Dear World, we are so sorry, love, every sane American"
Trump it seems was never told "no" , never told he can't have or do something, and has had a lifetime of making deals and suing people, his lackeys know this and manage to egg him on and control him from behind the scenes so they are all getting rich. Filthy scum, the lot of them.
He won the election because voting is not compulsory so many Democrats didn't vote and also because of that shady Electoral College which should have been dismantled decades ago.
