No-one is above the law . . .

No-one is above the law . . .

. . . and so, today, on his 66th birthday, the former Duke of York has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

It’s not a very pleasant birthday present.

  1. Whoosh, I suppose he will be granted bail. I suppose it is to do with selling the countries secrets. Maybe not selling, just blabbing stuff he shouldn't.

  2. Long overdue. I think there could be real trouble for the monarchy if prpoer justice is not carried out.

    1. I agree. I hope he doesn't get the preferential treatment he obviously thinks he deserves.

  3. Oh I am not sure about noone is above the law. People in authoritative positions have always been above the law. Who do politicians, church ministers, school principals, millionaires, police, judges have to answer to?

    1. They all answer, eventually, though it may take some time.

    1. Luckily the UK doesn’t have a presidential system where one person can weaponize law enforcement

    2. There is corruption everywhere, but law is mostly just in UK.

  5. I wish the same could said on this side of the pond.

  6. I just saw this on the morning news. I wish the people also involved on this side of the pond would face the law.

    1. Perhaps they hoped he would have a fit of conscience - not much chance of that.

  8. It doesn’t seem to apply to all countries, or certainly not at all times in all countries.

    1. Not at all, but I must admit to feeling slightly sorry for him, then thought again and decided he didn't deserve any sympathy.

    1. He's not renowned for introspection, so it may well have come as a nasty surprise.

  16. Here in the United States I woke up hearing this news and was stunned. This never would’ve happened in our country. At least there’s a chance for justice outside of the US. I hope whatever justice this man deserves is speedy and very public

  17. I am glad that at least your country is dealing with the lawbreakers. I keep hoping that perhaps one of these people in other countries will shed light on the lawbreaking of so many of our people in high places!

  18. "It's not a very pleasant birthday present" . . . but oh, so well deserved. I only hope that many more of the high-rolling people in the Epstein files get what they deserve, too.

  20. Woke up to the news this morning. No one should be above the law.

  21. I have purposely chosen to only follow the events on a macro scale, but I hope he will get a fair trial and just punishment.

  22. I have just been driving home from town & I heard this on the radio news report - it surprised me as I thought (& I'm sure as HE thought too) that he had managed to "get away with things" regarding that dreadful man he was friends with. It will be interesting to see what develops.

  23. I really feel for those leading the investigation. They are going to have to be careful and to be seen to be careful.
I believe strongly in the rule of law and don't like presuming guilt, but I hope that the investigators are rigorous.
