Groceries
The groceries arrived this morning in good time, with no substitutions.
However, as the bags were handed to me, I noticed milk swirling around in a couple of them. I commented on it to the delivery driver and he explained that milk had leaked from someone else’s order.
Before putting the items away, I had to wipe away the milk. In a couple of cases, it had found its way inside containers so that the fruit or vegetables in them had to be washed immediately. That was not a big problem, or even a little one, but it was annoying.
Milk is not a contaminant, so I’m not concerned about ill effects.
All in
all, I’ll write it off to experience. Accidents happen.
You are tolerant indeed!
ReplyDeleteToo much so, I fear!
DeleteAt least you found it before it did just dry and smell on the fruit and veggies. Wonder what the consumer who purchased the milk thought of getting an open container?
ReplyDeleteYes, I wondered that, too.
DeleteOoh, that would have annoyed me, you are very patient.
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
. . . or too idle to protest . . . 😉
DeleteVery annoying.
ReplyDeleteRecently P came home with a carrier bag from the supermarket. As I started to unload the bag I noticed a strong "meaty" smell. He had shoved a tray of (yellow sticker) meat on its side down amongst the rest of the groceries and the shrink wrapping had been pierced so blood from the meat had seeped out, coating all the packaging on the rest of the items.
I was rather miffed as I had to wash everything - even packets of biscuits - before putting it all away and re-wrapping the meat.
He just shrugged and said he couldn't see what the problem was!!!
Yuck! I would have been cross about that.
DeleteBut if they noticed it had leaked from another order I would think they should have re-bagged your order and delivered it to you clean.
ReplyDeleteYou're probably right, but the drivers have a tight schedule. The goods would have been removed, I would have been reimbursed, and would have had to reorder.
DeleteThe convenience of having one's groceries delivered (after someone shops for you and collects all of them) is certainly worth some occasional annoyances. I speak from experience!
ReplyDeleteFortunately, there are very few instances of spillage and damage.
DeleteThat is annoying. Walmart delivery is quite good here. -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteIt was irritating, but not life-threatening . . .
DeleteYup, annoying
ReplyDeleteYes!
DeleteYou know, I have been meaning to ask for a Jellicoe update.
ReplyDeleteJellicoe is recovering nicely, thank you.
DeleteAnnoying indeed, but if it happened along the way, not much that could be done about it I suppose... There's even an old proverb about it, isn't there? "Don't cry over spilled milk..." ;) I have groceries delivered , too. I have not yet received anything leaking, I think. Occasionally some fruit or vegs that I found unacceptable but then I send an email (and attach a photo if that helps explain) and so far always got a refund. On the whole, it doesn't happen often that I have reason to complain, though. I've been using the service every fortnight or so for 11 years by now, and would no longer manage without it!
ReplyDeleteI have few complaints about the service and certainly prefer delivery to trawling the supermarket aisles myself!
DeleteYes, very annoying.
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
Deleteyou did what I would do. Now if it happened on a regular basis, that would be another story... I had my 2nd error this week and got frozen pineapple instead of mango. two times in a month. I can't eat pineapple. Bob reminded me that the people putting the groceries in the cart do not speak English and the packages look Identical, except for the words Pineapple and Mango even the color is the same. It is still worth it to me because I can't leave my two boys alone that long..
ReplyDeleteThat is annoying. I hope you were able to return it.
DeleteAs others have said, I would be tolerant if something like this happened once. However, if the issue continued I would definitely be complaining.
ReplyDeleteIt's fair to say it's a rarity.
DeleteThings happen as you say and we should be grateful that someone has put all our shopping together.
ReplyDeleteI agree - it saves my legs and back, and fuel getting there and back.
DeleteAre you charged extra for delivery? You're right that accidents happen, but it seems there could be some credit given to you for the inconvenience, especially if this or something similar happens again.
ReplyDeleteWe do pay for delivery, but I balance that against the cost of fuel to drive myself there and back.
DeleteThings do happen when you have things delivered.
ReplyDeleteThey do.
DeleteFor sure, there was no use crying about the spilt milk.
ReplyDelete🤣😂
DeleteI've been having to depend on food delivery a lot the last few months. With the delivery service I use I can report problems. I've had to only twice, and both times I received a credit.
ReplyDeleteThe complaints procedure is easy and reimbursements, when necessary, are accomplished quickly and without argument.
DeleteYes, not the end of the world but certainly annoying
ReplyDeleteAs the saying goes, 'Worse things happen at sea.'
DeleteI think I too would have been patiently annoyed ... accidents do happen.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
We're all human, and everyone has off days.
DeleteIt's easy to break containres and have mess.
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising there aren't more breakages, really.
DeleteI wouldn't have as good you were with the situation, but my husband would have.
ReplyDeleteMy husband would have complained, but he was out and I kept quiet about it!
DeleteThat is rather annoying!
ReplyDeleteFirst world problem, really.
DeleteSpilt milk definitely requires a quick clean up! Milk is purchased in plastic bags here, and if there's a leak it can be very messy indeed!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying, and failing, to visualise a bag of milk.
DeleteI recently received a pack red-stained toilet rolls, 24 in all. The explanation was that another customer's bottle of wine had broken in transit - with murderous looking results. I was refunded the cost of the toilet rolls, but they were left with me in case I could make use of them. I recovered about 10 rolls from the pack.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear, how startling! Refunds are happily accepted, and the goods can usually be salvaged to some degree.
DeleteI suppose one's level of patience and tolerance is dependent on a number of factors. Right now, my level would be considerably lower than yours. Perhaps it is a good thing that I don't have the convenience of grocery delivery here. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI never used to think I was a patient woman, but have grown to accept that I probably am . . . by comparison, of course.
DeleteI haven't had groceries delivered in ages, not since I moved here where two supermarkets are just minutes walking away from my home. It would be annoying to have to wash off spilled milk, but think of the person who ordered that milk and now has none, or half.
ReplyDeleteI hope she'd ordered more than one carton of milk!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of getting groceries delivered. I make a comprehensive list and the husband takes it in once a week. I may, or may not, get all of it. If he can't find something, no go. Apparently there is not enough staff in the store we use to help customers find stuff. A sad comment on today.
ReplyDeleteI meant to say, 'Welcome.' There never seem to be enough of the 'right sort' of jobs these days. So many thousands of our young people are unemployed. Some have been born into families in which no-one has ever worked, astonishingly.
ReplyDeleteFine if you are not lactose intolerant.
