An image of a field of blue agave appeared on my screen earlier this week. I took a screen shot, but cannot find it now!
Green, or at least, not blue agave, produces Mescal.
I wondered if you might somehow tie this post in with your last one about worms, because they are often added to bottles of tequila :-)

DeleteI have heard worms are in bottles of tequila, one worm per bottle, but never understood why.

DeleteI have never tried tequila - too strong for me - and have never thought about how it is made. It seems agave is a very useful plant.

DeleteI won't drink tequila but I do have to say the color of the bottle and the color of the plants is a color I truly like.

DeleteWell I went and asked the question and my co-pilot said. This is a persistent myth, it is forbidden to put worms in tequila. But another Agave spirit drink called Mezcal can contain the larvae of a moth in it due to a marketing strategy from the 1940s-50s. Showing that the spirit was strong enough to keep the larvae intact.

DeleteI had, shall we say, a bad experience with tequila when I was in my early 20's and did not drink it again (unless the taste was masked) for many years. I can enjoy it now, but in this stage of my life I rarely drink any alcohol. The plants are beautiful.

DeleteThat sounds like one of those perfectly timed moments where an image just stays with you. The blue agave fields are unbelievably striking — almost surreal with those endless rows of silvery-blue plants. Even without finding the screenshot again, you described it vividly enough that I could picture it immediately. Sometimes the images we lose end up being the ones we remember most clearly.

DeleteBlue agave fields have such a dramatic beauty to them — sharp, sculptural, and somehow calming at the same time. I love that this image lingered in your mind enough to go searching for it again. That says a lot about how powerful the scene must have been. Even your brief description made me want to stop and stare at it too.

DeleteI haven’t had a shot of tequila in years. I don’t want to buy a bottle so I’ll have to find a friend who already has it on hand. A Margarita would be lovely!
