Camera Critters #106, Pet Pride Thanks for the memories!

As a young kitten Monty suffered Osteomyelitis and nearly died. He had to be fed with a syringe. He was a very good patient!
After surgery he had to wear an Elizabethan collar (buster collar or collar of shame) to stop him pulling out the drain in his leg. It didn't stop him playing with Winston!
All boxes had to be investigated . . .
Monty was fascinated by television. He enjoyed rugby . . .
 . . . natural history . . .
. . . mechanics . . .
. . . astronomy . . .
. . . Chaos theory . . .
He loved dogs . . . spotted dogs . . .
. . . yellow dogs . . .
 . . . but especially black dogs!
. . .and of course he loved Winston
Monty died on 15th April, aged 3 years and 5 months. He was a big personality, lively, interested in everything, great fun. We had no idea his heart was defective until it was too late. Heart medication provoked further problems - kidney failure among them - and our wonderful vets were perplexed and puzzled. Everything they tried revealed further problems.

On Thursday afternoon Barry and I visited him and - in the event - said goodbye. Our young, agile cat had been transformed into an old, ailing being - life was too difficult for him and with heavy hearts we made the decision to end his suffering.

This sequence presents Monty as the cat he was. To those who say, 'He was just a cat' we reply, 'Yes, we know - but he was 'just' our cat and he was special.'

Love is not confined to the human species - it passes and surpasses all boundaries, is given and reciprocated and, if we can recognise it, we are the richer for it.
RIP Monty - Salatan Monty - 20.11. 2006 - 15.04.2010.

  1. OMG, that's so sad ! Monty was so young. He looks so much like my Max who died 3 years ago after 20 years. He also was such a special cat. Honnestly I would never dare to say "it's only ... " All cats I lived with have a special place in my heart and are burried in our garden. It hurt much more to loose an animal you lived with than an old aunt you maybe met 5 times in your life only because she is a human ! You must be very sad, only time heals a bit.

  3. Dear Janice. I'm so sad for you. Monty was far too young to die, such a lively and wonderful cat. this memorial to him is testimony to your love and to his life.

I agree with you, 'Love is not confined to the human species'.

  4. I feel so sorry for your loss. Clearly Monty had a wonderful personality and was NOT "just a cat." Fortunately, you have photos to help you remember the good times. Poor, poor Monty to have had so many health problems. But lucky, lucky Monty to have been so loved.

  5. OMg I am crying my eyes out. they say those that live a full life sometimes live a short one- never ever just a cat. I lost one a month ago and noone even comes close to repeating his special habits.

I hope you will get another very soon so that special legacy lives on and on..sk

  11. Thank you all so much! Barry and I really appreciate your sentiments. It's always hard to say goodbye but more so when an animal is young and apparently healthy.
