Jabs

Jabs

Just had a jab today. Another one is due on Monday. Pincushion, anyone?

On the way, we passed a new apartment block. How on earth it acquired planning permission I’ll never know. It’s hideous. Apparently, it’s for assisted living . . . I must remember to take a photograph on Monday.

  1. Hopefully the inside is attractive for the folks living there. Did you get a cute bandaid? It seems they are standard anymore when I get a shot.

  2. I find when I get a shot at the pharmacy, the band-aid advertises them! I told them they ought to pay me for the advertising space on my arm

  3. In my area assisted living centers are popping up like mushrooms thanks to all the baby boomers aging into them.

  4. As much as we don't like to admit it there is a lot of 'insider' deals being done where development and building consents are concerned. Before we left we saw an example of a housing development along a motorway where the original consent required triple glazing. Somehow the developers later got that downgraded to double glazing and fixed windows (not opening) - with optional at buyers cost installation of air con! The Council got a good deal on something else somewhere else....

  5. I had my flu shot last Wednesday and we don't get bandaids, just a cotton swab and a bit of tape holding it down.
I'm guessing those in need of asisted living won't care what the outside of the building looks like, but it would look dreary to those visiting loved ones.

  6. It seems assisted living developments are springing up everywhere!
Hope the Monday 'jab' goes well.

    All the best Jan

  7. We live outside a small city with a large university. Lots of student housing being built. We also have a high number of senior citizens. Of course, no housing for us, especially affordable independent and assisted living housing. I would take some senior housing even if was ugly. There's such a need for it.

  8. I used to work in local government a long time ago. My boss was involved with purchasing land to build a sports centre at the very edge of our area. A lot of the meetings were held in pubs with nobody to keep a record of what was said. Of course the actual purchase had to be agreed by the planning committee, then ratified by the full council, but I always thought that there was something iffy about it. Once the sports centre was built the local authority boundaries were redrawn and it ended up being administered by the neighbouring authority. So, our rural tax payers paid for a facility that ended up benefiting the nearest city. As I said, definitely something iffy about it, just like the head of the planning committee building himself a swimming pool without planning permission and then claiming that he didn't know he needed it!

  9. Getting a jab next Tuesday. Planning permission is quite "fluid" in Canada too.

  11. Ouch. No fun being a pincushion. You have me curious about what the apartment building looks like
