Jabs
Just had a jab today. Another one is due on Monday. Pincushion, anyone?
On the way, we passed a new apartment block. How on earth it acquired planning permission I’ll never know. It’s hideous. Apparently, it’s for assisted living . . . I must remember to take a photograph on Monday.
Hopefully the inside is attractive for the folks living there. Did you get a cute bandaid? It seems they are standard anymore when I get a shot.
ReplyDeleteNo, no bandaid here - no blood, either!
DeleteI find when I get a shot at the pharmacy, the band-aid advertises them! I told them they ought to pay me for the advertising space on my arm
ReplyDeleteGood idea. We don't have such things here.
DeleteIn my area assisted living centers are popping up like mushrooms thanks to all the baby boomers aging into them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cheerful prospect!
DeleteAs much as we don't like to admit it there is a lot of 'insider' deals being done where development and building consents are concerned. Before we left we saw an example of a housing development along a motorway where the original consent required triple glazing. Somehow the developers later got that downgraded to double glazing and fixed windows (not opening) - with optional at buyers cost installation of air con! The Council got a good deal on something else somewhere else....
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's clear in our area that it's important to know 'someone on the council' if planning permission is required. It's disgraceful.
DeleteI had my flu shot last Wednesday and we don't get bandaids, just a cotton swab and a bit of tape holding it down.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing those in need of asisted living won't care what the outside of the building looks like, but it would look dreary to those visiting loved ones.
That's what we get, but not even that for this one. Mind you, the 'jab' was very gentle, and barely felt.
DeleteIt seems assisted living developments are springing up everywhere!
ReplyDeleteHope the Monday 'jab' goes well.
All the best Jan
It's rather forbidding, but presumably better than nothing.
DeleteWe live outside a small city with a large university. Lots of student housing being built. We also have a high number of senior citizens. Of course, no housing for us, especially affordable independent and assisted living housing. I would take some senior housing even if was ugly. There's such a need for it.
ReplyDeleteThat's the conclusion we reached - it's better than nothing.
DeleteI used to work in local government a long time ago. My boss was involved with purchasing land to build a sports centre at the very edge of our area. A lot of the meetings were held in pubs with nobody to keep a record of what was said. Of course the actual purchase had to be agreed by the planning committee, then ratified by the full council, but I always thought that there was something iffy about it. Once the sports centre was built the local authority boundaries were redrawn and it ended up being administered by the neighbouring authority. So, our rural tax payers paid for a facility that ended up benefiting the nearest city. As I said, definitely something iffy about it, just like the head of the planning committee building himself a swimming pool without planning permission and then claiming that he didn't know he needed it!
ReplyDeleteThere are too many of those 'arrangements' - it's wicked, when the taxpayers have to foot the bill for someone else's indulgence.
DeleteGetting a jab next Tuesday. Planning permission is quite "fluid" in Canada too.
ReplyDeleteIt varies from area to area. We seem to be in a rather lax area.
DeleteJabs? No wonder this corner of the internet is called Jablog!
ReplyDelete😷
DeleteToo bad it is hideous.
ReplyDeleteCheaper to build, I suppose!
DeleteOuch. No fun being a pincushion. You have me curious about what the apartment building looks like
ReplyDeleteThe person administering the shot was very good - didn't feel a thing!
DeleteI have 2 separate autoimmune diseases and, with a bit of research, I’ve learned that no scientific research has been done about the effect of the COVID shot (if that is one of the shots to which you refer) on individuals with autoimmune diseases. (This despite claims that people at high risk - including those with compromised immune systems - should get vaccinated.) Therefore, I avoid it. Not a popular opinion, but mine…and at least it mine is backed by some kind of research. Sad about the new building initiatives here as well. But rather than assisted living facilities (the ones of which we have needing renovations - or demolition), they are putting up more and more and more low-income housing. And talk about ugly! One they actually extended right into the street. Seriously??
ReplyDeleteI can understand that you would avoid something that might compromise your health. That's sensible.
DeleteIt was probably approved by someone who got jabbed
ReplyDeleteIn vengeance!
DeleteIt's been a while since I had a shot (or jab) of any kind, but I find that the nurses who give them now are so skilled that I hardly notice when the needle pricks. Or maybe I'm just losing my ability to feel them...
ReplyDeleteOurs were barely noticeable. Some people are very skilled.
DeleteIt seems the word for jabs goes out across England on the same day, I had an invitation as well. The needles are so fine nowadays it doesn't hurt.
ReplyDeleteModern architect can be rather ugly today but there again how can we move forward if we keep living in the same mindset.
As with all things, some will stand the test of time, while others will wither. I often wonder how many 'highly-acclaimed' musical compositions or paintings or books simply disappeared after a short while.
DeleteI had blood work done recently. No fancy bandaid, though.
ReplyDeleteJust a swab and surgical tape, if required, here.
ReplyDeleteI'm going for allergy testing on Monday.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
DeleteJabs on Jabblog
ReplyDelete🤣😂
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Jos can relate to the pincushion feeling ...
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing that photo! xxx
Poor Jos . . .
DeleteThat doesn't sound like a great design for assisted living! All those stairs or lifts and walking. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteHope you get no adverse reaction to either jab
So far, so good. 👍
ReplyDeleteI will be interested in seeing a picture of that place sometime. We saw a new building recently that left us with a similar feeling. Good for you getting your jab today. I was at the pharmacy this morning (13th) to get my tetanus shot. I will be ready for my next shingles one in another month and will be all up to date after that one.
