The ‘phone rang . . .
. . . on Monday night. It was Callum calling to ask if we were available for a visit. ‘Of course,’ we said. ‘When?’ thinking it would be at the weekend.
‘I’m just round the corner,’ he said. Actually, he was about fifteen minutes away, but close enough to pass for ‘just around the corner.’ He was in the area for business and having to stay overnight in a hotel.
Roxy and Gilbert were overjoyed to see him.
He stayed for a couple of hours and he and Barry set the world to rights in their usual fashion. Then he left for a meeting.
‘I hope it goes well,’ I said.
‘We’re meeting
over a pint,’ he said.
That was bound
to be successful, I thought.
These
unplanned visits are such a welcome surprise.
I like to have an hour's warning so I can clean the living room and the kitchen :)
ReplyDeleteCallum is used to our ways.
DeleteI like to have warning too, so at least the bed can be smoothed and newspapers removed to the back porch.
ReplyDeleteIf we have too much warning, I go into a flatspin, which is not good.
DeleteI think I also fall into that hour's notice crowd! But still a surprise visit is sometimes nice.
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows we live in a tip, so why pretend otherwise?
DeleteUnplanned visits are often to be cherished. Love a pint too
ReplyDeleteYes, they're fun.
DeleteI love an unplanned visit, no notice required, just come on in, put your feet up and join us in some food and drinks!
ReplyDeleteVisitors come to see you, not the state of your house, unless you're trying to sell your house, of course.
DeleteGran didn't have a bed for her grandson? Perhaps his accommodation was paid for, or he didn't want to put you to trouble. I'd want a week's notice to give lots of time for me to panic and mull over what could go wrong.
ReplyDeleteCallum knows he can always stay here but, yes, his accommodation had been arranged for him.
DeleteHow lovely! Enough notice to put the kettle on but no time to fuss about hoovering, etc. Just taking things as they are. xx
ReplyDeleteExactly! Take us as you find us or don't take us at all.
DeleteI love unplanned visits. I guess that it just depends on whether you are flexible or not….my husband likes to know what’s happening each day and prefers order in his life…but I’m happy to drop everything should anyone call!
ReplyDeleteAll the better for being unexpected.
DeletePerfect kind of visit - no preparation, no expectation.
ReplyDeleteTrue - we offered him food, but he was eating later. No problem.
DeleteNothing nicer than the comment 'are you in', very few family would be just passing here, more like 'I'm in your area'
ReplyDeleteIt's a long pass here, too.
DeleteWhat a wonderful surprise.
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely.
DeleteThat's the kind of moment that just brightens your day completely.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly cheered us up.
DeleteHow nice for you.
ReplyDeleteIt was. We don't see our family much, so it's nice when it happens.
DeleteA nice surprise, indeed.
ReplyDeleteIt was.
DeleteI love a good surprise.

Nice surprises are good, nasty ones, not at all.😎
DeleteWhat a lovely surprise! Those spontaneous visits are the best, aren't they? It's so nice to have those unexpected connections.
ReplyDeleteThey are the best, indeed.
DeleteThat's the best kind of visit!
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteThat is a wonderful kind of visit. Seems they would happen more often in the 'old days.' Today, not so much. But they are treasures when they do.
ReplyDeleteSome manage it more frequently than others, but everyone leads a busy life now.
DeleteHow nice.
ReplyDeleteIt was - and we weren't in too much chaos, either!
DeleteWhat a lovely surprise that must have been for you and Barry! xxx
ReplyDeleteIt certainly brightened our evening.
DeleteWhat a nice surprise.
ReplyDeleteWe're pleasantly surprised that he takes the time to come and see us.
DeleteWhat a nice surprise, for me I'd like to be given a day notice, haha. However, unplanned visit are the most memorable.
ReplyDeleteThey are memorable.
DeleteI like surprise visits - as long as the house is tidy!
ReplyDeleteIf we had to wait until then, we'd never have visitors . . . 😗
DeleteLovely!
ReplyDelete😃
DeleteWhat a lovely surprise :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
If Callum and Barry were putting the world to rights, does that mean that they advised Trump to surrender stolen Ukrainian territory to Putin and to build a leisure resort on the wasteland that is Gaza?
ReplyDeleteMore a case of imprisoning the orange one . . . or, at least, overthrowing him.
DeleteReally nice surprise!
ReplyDeleteIt was nice. Several days later and I'm still feeling cheered.
DeleteFun! At least with family there's not as much pressure to play "host" and have the place spotless. (Not that I'm insinuating your place WASN'T spotless. :) )
ReplyDeleteWe love having visits anytime especially if it's family and don't care what the house looks like.
ReplyDeleteLovely to have an unexpected visit from Callum that you all enjoyed.
