First family birthday of the year!

It’s Barry’s birthday today (Happy Birthday, darling!) and so far our week has been most enjoyable. On Tuesday evening we went to a television series launch party which was great fun. We met the writer/producer and his family and two of our daughters and were introduced to other writers, producers, friends and the cast, all of whom were so charming and affable.

We had left the dogs at home alone and didn’t return until quite late but they were fine. Gus practically turned himself inside out when we walked in – he’s used to coming almost everywhere with us and had only been left for short periods before. Yesterday was a quiet day – we didn’t even exercise. The dogs were content to snooze, safe in the knowledge that their people were close by and the humans were tired, too.

I haven’t decided what to prepare for supper; Barry has a choice of trout, kedgeree or venison – he will consider the options as he swims!

Tomorrow he is meeting some old friends/colleagues for lunch which will be agreeable for him and on Saturday, some of our children are coming to lunch. Actually, they’re bringing most of the food with them, according to what they’ve said, so we’re looking forward to what will be a very pleasant time.

The next family birthdays, three of them, are in March. It’s so nice when a birthday expands to take in most of the week.

  3. Happy Birthday all the way from western Canada, Barry. I notice Janice doesn't mention ages - good idea, Janice. The family celebration with the younger generation bringing most of the food sounds like a wonderful idea.
I'm glad your dogs were fine - we haven't tried leaving Lindy alone in the house. She prefers to be outside, so we only go out together if the weather isn't too awful.

  10. Happy Birthday Barry!
Our next family birthday is my MIL's in March. We always ask her what she would like to do and she always says she wants to come to our house for lunch with all the family! So sorted! As it is March 22nd it is always near Mother's Day so we combine them both!

    The best times eh?

It sounds like busy, but yet relaxed, festivity filled days. Nice.

  13. Happy Birthday to your Barry! I hope you all had a great time. Poor Gus, the doggies do seem to miss us when we have to leave them behind. But, it is nice to see them so happy when we come home.

  15. This sounds like a wonderful Birthday, and as for your dog Gus 'turning himself inside out' the little love, my dog Grace does the same thing ... I think if a human were to show the same pleasure they'd have to do a gymnastic tumbling routine!
