Book Blurb Friday #13

This meme is hosted by Lisa Ricard Claro at ‘Writing in the Buff’ J

Each week she posts a photo that could be the cover of a book. The aim is to:
‘Write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book.’

Below is this week's picture and my offering.

Snowstorms

When snow falls on the night of their 50th anniversary party Tony and Barbara Brownlow have no inkling that it will have such a profound effect. They have invited all the family – their two daughters and their husbands and children, Tony’s brother and sister-in-law and a few old friends. As the weather worsens it is soon obvious that guests will have to be accommodated overnight.
After three days of being snowed in, with little prospect of escape, the veneer of good manners wears thin and people begin to say what they really think and to reveal secrets that have been hidden for many years.
Bruising revelations threaten the happiness of almost all the guests. What will the future hold for each of them? Will they ever be able to resume their previous way of life?

  3. This sort of character-ful scenario is right up my street - plenty of possibilities to tease out here - in fact I don't see how you can fail to write it!

  4. I am a sucker for a good blurb and would definitely buy your book! I am just disappointed that I can't! Lovely photo too.
I read a good thriller-the first book I read on my kindle-by Anne Holt called 1222. It was based on a group of strangers being snowed in at a hotel-I really enjoyed it.

  6. Hi J.,

This is great! Anything and everything can be said, revealed and happen in your story. I love it and I'd buy it in a minute. Wonderful idea for a book.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  7. Superb meme, and an excellent response. You've sold it to me, now all we need is for someone to write the book.

  8. A lot of stuff from the past would be brought up after days of being together! Wow, great idea for a book. Would they be the same? Nope.

  9. Shades of Agatha Christie, Janice! Wonderful setting, and cast all assembled for a mystery.

  10. Okay, where is the book...
I read one years ago that started with a bunch of people being snowed in, but they found a corpse that had been in a secret staircase... They all remained polite...

  13. This sounds like an awesome character driven story. The possibilities are endless, and the story might go anywhere from personality studies to mystery to romance. Yes, I'd buy this in a heartbeat.

  14. Yep .. that sounds like what might happen in this situation. I love uncomfortable dramas like this so I'd definitely be interested in reading this.

  15. That's hilarious! I like being snow bound, and once was, but to be couped up with people like that, even friends, can be taxing. What is it about getting older? I can only take people in doses.

  16. This would be so true-cooped up for days with so may family members might not be such a pleasant thing-LOL! What a unique approach :)

  17. This one has a ring of truth that is scarier than any horror tale. I'm hankering to get the inside scoop on the whole family.

  18. No, they will all kill each other and the last one will commit suicide and then when the snow has melted a young couple will find the corpses and call Inspector Barnaby !

  19. My family can't go an hour without bruising something. I'm sure a few days of being snowed in would get tense.

  20. Love this - and it sounds ripe for adaptation for a film!

  21. After being snowed in for three days the tension would have to be thick. Some really juicy secrets could be reveled. This would be a great read, I would buy it.
