Morning has broken . . .
Arthur and Lottie have been enjoying doggy hols with Roxy and Gilbert while their owners have gone off to distant - and warmer - climes. They have settled very well and Lottie has decided we are worth protecting, assuming the responsibility for barking at goodness knows what. She doesn't bark very often or for very long.
Lottie, with the wayward topknot that just begs for a ribbon, (but won't get one!) is a working Cocker Spaniel, like her companion, Arthur.
She sleeps downstairs in the big crate which serves all the dogs, apart from Roxy, as a place to go and calm down during the day, although obviously not all at once!
She always greets everyone with enthusiasm and has to find something to carry in her mouth while doing so. Arthur does the same. Today's excited greeting was accompanied by her blue blanket for a little early morning dusting before the other dogs came downstairs.
It was followed by a vigorous play session with Gilbert, who is very much bigger and stronger than her. He understands that he is subordinate to her and respects her position in the pack, just as she has learnt that all canines are inferior to cats.
After that it was time for breakfast and a post-prandial snooze.
By Cat Stevens.. :)
ReplyDeleteI liked his rendition.
DeleteI liked the line all canines are inferior to "cats"!
DeleteI remember the song, not a favourite but easy enough to listen to. Lovely to see the dogs playing.
ReplyDeleteThey play together a lot - it's quite busy!
DeleteGilbert is clever . . .
ReplyDeletexx
He knows how to get his own way . . . with the dogs, at least. x x
DeleteI would not normally watch such a clip for its over one minute duration, but the dogs playing was quite mesmerising. I love your dog tails, sorry tales.
ReplyDeleteThey are fun to watch, if rather noisy.
DeleteUp until just over a year ago, l had three Springer
ReplyDeleteSpaniels living next door over a period of thirty
years, there was Bertie, then William, named after
me, and another Bertie...they were all gun dogs,
and John there owner died a few days after the
last Bertie died, John was 87yrs old...a country
walla and game~keeper...! And over many, many
years kept me supplied with all the game l needed!
Many a morning, Bertie number three would come
down the path with a baby rabbit in his mouth, that
he'd caught, l'd skin it, gut it, clean it and throw it in
the pan, with a bit of bacon...Breakfast is sorted...!
All three dogs were certainly characters...! :).

I had a Springer spaniel when I was a girl. We called him Punch to go with my kitten, Judy.
ReplyDeleteOur Labradors are working line but don't go out shooting.
Lovely for you to have fresh game for all those years.
This will make for a fun filled home for a while! Good that most dogs do integrate well with others. Not so much with cats, lol.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun but the spaniels make our Labradors look quite pedestrian! Our cats don't like each other and they're litter brothers - maybe that's why ;-)
DeleteOne of my favourites. It’s going to be busy in your household with all those pooches around. Enjoy. B x
ReplyDeleteIt is busy. We used to have four dogs so are accustomed to the numbers! x
DeleteSuch fun to watch, although I am thinking that floor is rather noisy and slippery.
ReplyDeleteWe thought long and hard about the floor, particularly the slippery aspect. So far, umpteen years in, there haven't been any accidents . . . :-)
DeleteThank you for the earworm, Janice! How lovely that Lottie is helping you with the dusting. And how clever she is to realize that all canines are inferior to cats :-) xxx
ReplyDeleteI think it was experience rather than wit that taught Lottie her place in the hierarchy! x x x
DeleteOh how delightful & funny they all are to watch. Maybe they could come & teach my cats how to all get along!! 😉
ReplyDeleteThey'd have to teach ours first :-)
DeleteWhat an adorable face on that one! Lovely to see them play so nicely together :)
ReplyDeleteLottie was rather worried about Gilbert for quite a while but now she loves to play, knowing that he will listen if she tells him to stop.
