T is for Teddy Bears - one of the toys most favoured by children. Who can forget cradling a teddy bear and endowing it with life and character?
If you're a mother, aunt, big sister or grandmother you will surely have indulged the opportunity to choose a bear and rock it in your arms as you look for other little gifts for a new-born baby.
It's not just babies and small children who are given teddy bears, though. I have been delighted to receive many through the years but the dearest one is this one in the photograph below.
Sing along to Henry Hall and his orchestra as they give their rendition of the Teddy Bears' Picnic.
If you go down in the woods today
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go down in the woods today
You'd better go in disguise.
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic.
Every teddy bear, who's been good
Is sure of a treat today
There's lots of marvellous things to eat
And wonderful games to play
Beneath the trees, where nobody sees
They'll hide and seek as long as they please
That's the way the teddy bears have their picnic.
Chorus:
Picnic time for teddy bears
The little teddy bears are having a lovely time today.
Is sure of a treat today
There's lots of marvellous things to eat
They'll hide and seek as long as they please
That is a lovely teddy bear! I love the teddy bear's picnic-and its slightly sinister edge!
ReplyDeleteI'd almost forgotten about that song! How fun! Love your Teddy Bear post for the T Day! And a beautiful Teddy Bear he is! Hope your week is going well! Enjoy! Stay warm!

That's such a sweet looking Teddy Bear. I can't remember having one as a child - although I did have a golliwog!
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Everyone loved teddy bears.
ReplyDeleteLOVED my teddy, the one given to me on my first Christmas. Believe it or not, I still have it! :)
ReplyDeleteI've tried finding teddy bears for several babies during the last few years and it has been incredibly hard: you can find dogs and elephants, pink cloth bears and yellow tweed bears, but it's very very hard finding an ordinary brown teddy bear! (I managed all three times though. After a lot of searching)
ReplyDeleteDon't tell my wife, but, for Christmas, I got her a teddy bear to replace the one we lost a number of years ago in North Carolina.
ReplyDeleteDo love teddy bears and that song is one you know from childhood that never leaves you.
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to sing Teddy Bear's Picnic to us when we were kids. I love that song so much.
ReplyDeleteOh my! This brings back some fine fun memories! Terrific T post!
ReplyDeleteOh, lovely! I chose Teddy Bears too! Great minds think alike.
ReplyDeleteI love this post about Teddy Bears. I had one when I was small but somehow lost it. I can still see him though, in my mind's eye. His name was Ted. It was great too to hear the Henry Hall band again. A
ReplyDeleteOh Delightful, delightful. I have a wonderful story too long to share, but it involves a Teddy Bear on my bed from my grandson, when he thought he was too old for it, and I was too old not to have it!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun post! I actually have quite a collection of teddy bears, but didn't even think of them for today. You've done an awesome job here...I remember singing the song as a kid and for my own kids when they were small. When they were in kindergarten, the school always had a teddy bears' picnic day when the little one brought their favourite bears to school and they had an indoor picnic. Good memories. :D
ReplyDeleteI remember this song very well, Janice. In fact, I have a blog post all ready to go a little later today, showing me with my first teddy bears. I still have the larger one, and his name is Hunny.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories!

Hi Janice,
ReplyDeleteYour teddy bear is adorable. We have a few of them hanging around the house even though the kids are grown. My 24 year old son still won't part with his first one.
I wanted to let you know that Yiota passed along the link to your blog. She has chosen us as interview partners. If you are interested please visit my blog or e-mail me at humbird170@yahoo.com.
Thanks,

I loved reading this post plus its predecessors - it reminded me that I blogged about my ancient "teddy" last January. I had to "search" to find it - sure enough there it was (Z is in fuzzy wuzzy).
ReplyDeleteYour husband certainly sounds like a romantic at heart - good for him, and good for you too!
I love your header with the yellow leaves against that startling blue sky.
ReplyDeleteI had a teddy bear too, but mine was a panda bear.
Oh my goodness! Henry Hall and the Teddy Bear's picnic!!! Now that really does date me -- and just how old could Henry Hall have been in that photo? All that seems to have been in another life.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I have from my childhood is my teddybear. Wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteGood T post, yet I don't think I ever had a teddy bear. :-)
ReplyDeletethat's super cute. reminds me of my sister's teddy bear collection.. happy wednesday!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Teddy bears are so special. I always give a teddy bear to a new baby! My youngest still has his little white one I gave to him when he was 1. I've held onto a few as well from my kids! I can't get rid of them - too many memories!
ReplyDeleteI have some teddy bears - I can't resist them if I see one in a charity shop! If you check my blogroll you will see my friend Bob T Bear (Esq) He has his own blog - you would love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this - a great member of the gang!

Who doesn't love Teddy Bears. What a great choice for T. Thanks for posting the lyrics from Teddy Bear Picnic.
ReplyDeleteHa ha..interesting. This is the second post I read today with the same subject and song. But the singer here is different and also the music and style.
ReplyDeleteNice one nonetheless
