Strange fruit

Strange fruit

At the top of our fruit basket sits a little bird, overseeing three tiers. The top two carry tangerines and clementines.

The bottom tier has been taken over invaded by remote controls. Believe it or not, these are all related to the television.

We have one that is supposed to be the all-in-one control, which I thought was a really good idea.

It is the Logitech Harmony Elite and was bought in 2019. It worked very well. However, the company that developed it stopped making it and withdrew its support. Some of the functions ceased working and the device cannot be updated now, so it has become an ornament a dust collector a collector’s item.

Fully charged, with nowhere to go. It reminds me of 'I took my harp to a party, but no-body asked me to play.'

  1. That looks like our home. F has given up watching TV if Mr B is not there as the array of things needed to simply switch it on and get pictures and sound is way too confusing for her - being a bear of simple mind. (Mind you Mr B might have made it that way - he loves gadgets, and largely unused additional features, and stuff like that).

    1. It sounds as though Mr B and my husband are kindred spirits . . .

  2. I suggest removing the battery and throwing the device away since it is now useless. One of the others looks very much like my daughter's universal remote. I have only one remote myself, it came with the TV and if I ever get a new TV that will come with its own remote too so the first one will stay with the old TV and be given to a friend, or both just disposed of if the tv is no longer working.

    1. One remote would be wonderful, but we have all-singing, all-dancing devices that drive me mad!

    1. I know someone who transports her harp to various venues.

  4. If it is the buttons that are not working, crack it open if possible and clean the contact points with a cotton bud dipped in 'metho'.

  5. I love the colour and shape of the fruit, but the techie thingies on the bottom are soulless.

  6. makes me grateful I have only 2 controls! But we use TV mostly to play DVDs of old TV fun shows I get from the library.

  7. Oh yes, we have remote controls that are trying to take over the world. Strange to think that when we were growing up someone had to leave their chair/sofa and adjust the set manually 😀

    1. Even stranger to realise that television wasn't available 24 hours of the day. Not all progress is to be welcomed. ;-)

  8. Ah, and learning to USE each remote control is so frustrating....especially if after it is mastered it is no longer updatable. UGH. Technology!

  9. Perhaps voice control is the way to go. Perhaps not, as I seem to spend time shouting at Alexa who just does not listen . . . ;-)

  10. Strange fruit indeed, but I can relate: things like remote controls do tend to take over the most unlikely places here at Dove Cottage as well :-) xxx
