Electric Teeth update

Electric Teeth update

We have been enjoying our new Philips Sonicare toothbrush for just about three weeks. It has a really business-like low-pitched quiet rumbling buzz and cleans efficiently. Barry says it makes his ears tickle, but I haven’t noticed that. Unsurprisingly, for the man our son’s school friends used to call Inspector Gadget, he has also connected the free Philips Sonicare app, which will accomplish the following (copied from the internet):

The Philips Sonicare app is a free app that works with connected Philips Sonicare toothbrushes to help improve brushing habits. The app offers features such as:

  • Real-time guidance: Monitors brushing habits like time, pressure, and coverage of the mouth
  • SenseIQ: Automatically adjusts brushing style

  • Auto-sync: Updates without the phone nearby

  • Mouth map: Provides position guidance and notifications for missed areas

  • Provides brushing guides and a SmarTimer

  • Brush head reorder: Automatically reorders brush heads

Additionally, the toothbrush turns off automatically when the tooth cleaning cycle is completed.

I was delighted with the smiling face, something akin to this

when I'd finished brushing, child that I am, but Barry is rewarded with an animated smile, if you can imagine such a thing.

He says he will connect my iPhone if I wish, but I have enough difficulty remembering where my phone is if it’s not on its charging base. I don’t have pockets to carry it safely, but he is rarely parted from his, like the rest of our family.

Bathroom routines take even longer now!

UPDATE: My apologies! I've mixed up OralB and Sonicare. Ours is an OralB, as in the picture. However, Barry has installed an app which tells him how well he's cleaning his teeth.

  1. I have a 'dumb' electric toothbrush. The only thing it does is vibrate every 30 seconds, which means it's time to move to another quadrant of my mouth.

  2. So Sonicare has gone to round heads?

    1. For no known reason, I've mixed up Sonicare and OralB . . . 😟😶

  3. I have an older model Sonicare. I've been using Sonicare for decades. An app to brush your teeth? I think I'd pass on that one.

    1. Ours is an OralB - I don't know how I mixed them up.

  4. I'll stick with my trusty old fashioned regular brush for the few teeth I have left.

    1. At least you won't mix up brands, as I have - goodness knows how or why.

  5. I used to love my sonicare. I've got a cheap copy version at the moment, does all the right things but I'm not convinced it's as good....I'll find out at my next dental checkup I suppose. Pretty sure I couldn't be bothered with an App!

  6. Isn't that image an OralB ?
I have been using a Philips Sonicare for years now. It has been brilliant.

    1. It is an OralB and it's the one we've got . . .

  7. You're showing a picture of the Oral-B iO6, which doesn't have the same features that you list and isn't Sonicare. 🙃 Nonetheless sounds like good results are being achieved. 👍

    1. Our tumble dryer has an app, too - it really annoys me, but Barry thinks it's great. Actually, most of our children love such apps, too. It's just me, the Luddite, who refuses to move with the times.

  9. What fun! We have electric toothbrushes but this one is more advanced.

    1. It is rather nice to have a smile in the morning, even if it isn't human 😀

  10. Is this also suitable for false teeth ?

  11. Sounds like a great tooth cleaner. Our dentist has mentioned us using the Sonic, but we have stuck to the old fashion tooth brush so far.

    1. It's probably a good idea to stick with what you find most useful.

  12. I have an Oral B, but one that does not have A-I! I find it cleans much better than the regular toothbrush. I still floss and use dental piks though. I say - whatever works! Smiles.

  13. I use an Oral B as well. I can honestly say that I don't need one that syncs to my phone. That's...well...creepy.

  14. Plain old manual for me. Never needs charging. Only been to a dental hygienist twice in my life and dentists constantly tell me my teeth are great .... and then proceed to tell me I should be using an electric toothbrush. Go figure.

  15. So I used a manual toothbrush for oh, 50 years, and now I can buy a toothbrush with an app and AI? My current dentist is big on electric toothbrushes, so I've used first an Oral B and then, when the Oral B went to Toothbrush Heaven, a similar but cheaper store brand. Not ready for an AI toothbrush that keeps all kinds of stats on me.

    1. It's not my choice, either, but it's available if I can be bothered - which I can't.

  16. I use an Oral B but it's an older one so thankfully cannot be connected to an app !!!

    All the best Jan

  17. We've considered getting an electric toothbrush, but haven't. But, I had no idea your toothbrush could be connected to an app. Apps for everything nowdays. Geesh!! Thanks for the review.

  18. I don't like my electric toothbrush :( I'm going to persevere in using it though as dentist says it's better. Sigh

    1. . . . but if you don't like it, you'll be less inclined to use it, and that won't be good. There has to be an element of personal choice, surely.

  19. I've used one for years, with my first have a couple of AA batteries. When my partner died, I tried his toothbrush and it is vastly superior to mine, though the heads are the same. It has lights of various kinds and I love it. The only real benefit from the app that I can see is that it can tell you if you've missed brushing somewhere.

  22. Sounds like a fun toothbrush to use. I'm an Oral B toothbrush girl myself.
