Gilbert
the Good – Noses and needles
I am a very
lucky boy and have lots of toys. My newest toy is the Quintopus and I really
like playing tug with it, either with Roxy or the humans. The trouble with it
is that it loses its tentacles really easily.
It became a Quadropus until
Janice mended it, but after that a strenuous game transformed it into a Triopus,
so she took it away from me and promised to repair it. That was ages ago.
Every time I reminded her, by picking up one of the pieces, she just said, ‘I’ve
got to mend this, Gilbert. You’ll have to wait.’
That wouldn’t
have been so bad, but she’d also taken my duck away for mending and that was on
a high shelf, so I couldn’t reach it. I like all my toys, but I especially like
my duck and my Quintopus. Every time I looked at her with sad eyes, she just said,
‘I will repair it, Gilbert, I promise.’
I had given
up all hope until today. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw her
threading a needle.
I wanted to see how to do it. Roxy came along to watch,
too. I’m not sure I’d be able to sew, as I haven’t got opposable thumbs, but maybe
Roxy and I could work on it together.
Janice was
worried about us getting so close to the needle. She doesn’t realise what
sensible dogs we are.
It was so
good to have my soft toys again, but I found I was exhausted from concentrating
so hard so needed to have a refreshing snooze.
Arthur’s
coming to stay tomorrow night. Yippee!

It is tough when favourite toys can't be played with for any reason.
ReplyDeleteIt's tough for little children when favourite toys are lost. I know some people buy duplicates, which seems sensible, but a little sad.
DeleteWhew, finally! so pleased that the surgery went well. About time, too!!
ReplyDeleteThat was Gilbert's reaction, too.
DeleteOh that face in the last picture! He is surely a good dog.
ReplyDeleteHe is such a sweet boy and he does make us laugh.
DeleteI love this Janice ... how could you refuse him when you see that sweet face in the last pic 🖤 Gilbert you are adorable!
ReplyDeleteOne of our old dogs - a Hungarian vizsla - got my sons soft toy dolphin & ran around playing with it until we discovered a tiny split in the dolphins side & a squeak coming out of the dogs mouth. There - lodged up above his teeth on the side - was the squeeker out of the dolphin. Thankfully we were able to get it out no problem & one dolphin got quickly repaired minus its squeek!
They do like to remove them, don't they? It was lucky you were able to get it before he swallowed it - how funny, though!
DeleteLabradorable!
ReplyDeleteI've had to carry out these 'operations ' so many times on loved toys and like you Janice I often leave them on high shelves where they get forgotten.
Alison in Wales x
I'm glad I'm not the only one who repairs dog toys, Alison.
DeleteOne of the joys in life is to see freshly washed dog toys on the washing line in the sun.
Wow Gilbert what an exhausting week it's been!
ReplyDeleteGilbert says: Thank you for understanding the turmoil of daily life.
DeleteHow long will it remain intact though??
ReplyDeleteThat's what I ask myself as I struggle to avoid driving the needle into my finger nail. The answer is - not long!
DeleteI am always repairing our grandchildren's soft toys, they don't stay mended for long.
ReplyDeleteThey don't, but children don't have quite the instant destructive power of a dog - or two, if they're playing together!
DeleteThat doll looks fluffy already. Soon to be torn apart
ReplyDelete. . . soon to be torn apart, AGAIN. Actually, it's still in one piece, after one day, so there's hope yet!
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect Gilbert, you do have a very kind mistress, even if you had to wait a bit. Please be careful with your favourite toys.
ReplyDeleteGilbert says: She is kind but a bit slow, if you know what I mean. Toys are meant to be played with!
DeleteSweet Gilbert, got your favorite toys back and looking forward to a visit. Have fun and see if you can share.
ReplyDeleteGilbert says: I always share my toys, especially with the humans, 'cos I'm a good boy.
DeleteI'm so glad everything has returned to normal.
ReplyDeleteGilbert says: . . . and so say all of us!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. I'm glad Gilbert finally got his favorite toys repaired. Who's a good boy?
ReplyDeleteHe is, definitely:-)
DeleteAww. What a sweet fella you are, Gilbert.
ReplyDeleteGilbert says: Aww, shucks, ma'am, thank you. Woof!
DeleteBetter be careful with those newly repaired toys, Gilbert! xxx
ReplyDeleteGilbert says: So far, I have been. Having Arthur here to play really helps ;-)
DeleteGilbert always makes me smile. His expressions are priceless.
ReplyDeleteHe's a lovely dog to live with - great fun!
DeleteAt last, all is right with the world again. If only our lives were that simple.
ReplyDeleteWe could learn a lot from animals. Humans think they're so superior ;-)
DeleteHi Janice - good for you ... I suspect this may be a never-ending project ... legs are prone to fall off ... poor old octopus ... but of course Gilbert deserves much love. I hope he had a monumental day with Arthur ... cheers Hilary. PS I agree with your last comment to Alana - xo
ReplyDeleteHe had a great time with Arthur - they played themselves to exhaustion and gave Roxy a rest.
ReplyDeleteOh Gilbert you are still the sweetest k9 on the internet.
ReplyDeleteGilbert says: Thank you kindly. Woof!
