Beaver Moon 2024

Beaver Moon 2024

November’s full moon is known as the Beaver moon because it rises at a time of year when beavers are particularly active preparing for the cold winter months to come. It is also a time when traps would be set for beavers to ensure Native Americans had sufficient warm furs in the winter.

The Beaver moon on Friday 15th November was the fourth consecutive supermoon of 2024.There will not be another supermoon until October 2025.

A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the moon’s nearest approach to Earth, its perigee. At its closest, the moon is about 14,000 miles nearer than usual and appears brighter and larger than usual.

  1. We had an unusually clear sky so the moon illuminated our bedroom - it was quite magical.

    1. It's good to have a clear sky, but does mean that the temperature drops.

  3. So that's what it was- I went out in the drive last night to take a photo. The moon cooperated , smiling broadly! Interesting that this is the time for the Beaver.

    1. Interesting in this country, as beavers are almost extinct and having to be reintroduced.

  4. I have photographed some supermoons, so I am no longer moved to do so. Perhaps I will again sometime if I can find a good location --which is somewhat unlikely.

    1. They do seem to hang almost perilously close to Earth.

    1. A lot of us seem to have been fortunate in seeing the moon.

  6. Our female goats use to head butt each other when it was a full moon round now and we would take them to the buck to breed them. The moon controls so much including the tides.

    1. That is fascinating. We think we control so much, but our efforts are paltry.

    2. Full moons were often warning signs for wars. Orange moons especially.

  7. Disappointingly overcast here. I used to love watching such full moons rise above the Thames - huge and orange (atmospheric pollution possibly) as it emerged from the eastern horizon.

  8. November is here therefore we no longer have clear skies. I miss seeing it occur.

    1. Sometimes we have clear skies, other times not. I would miss the moon, too.

  15. I never knew about the Beaver moon, because we don't have beavers in Australia. Who the heck is this "die" person?

  16. I tried to find what it's called in Australia and came up with 'Beaver moon' which is odd. It's also called Mourning Moon or Frosty Moon, neither of which seems appropriate as you enter the summer months.

  17. Unfortunately we haven't had a clear sky for weeks, so no Beaver Moon for us to see! xxx

  18. That's a shame. Has there been unrelenting rain as well?
