Beaver Moon 2024
November’s full moon is known as the Beaver moon because it rises at a time of year when beavers are particularly active preparing for the cold winter months to come. It is also a time when traps would be set for beavers to ensure Native Americans had sufficient warm furs in the winter. The Beaver moon on Friday 15th November was the fourth consecutive supermoon of 2024.There will not be another supermoon until October 2025.
A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the moon’s nearest approach to Earth, its perigee. At its closest, the moon is about 14,000 miles nearer than usual and appears brighter and larger than usual.
We had an unusually clear sky so the moon illuminated our bedroom - it was quite magical.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have a clear sky, but does mean that the temperature drops.
DeleteI love following the moon through its phases.
ReplyDeleteThe moon is a lovely sight in all its phases.
DeleteSo that's what it was- I went out in the drive last night to take a photo. The moon cooperated , smiling broadly! Interesting that this is the time for the Beaver.
ReplyDeleteInteresting in this country, as beavers are almost extinct and having to be reintroduced.
DeleteI have photographed some supermoons, so I am no longer moved to do so. Perhaps I will again sometime if I can find a good location --which is somewhat unlikely.
ReplyDeleteThey do seem to hang almost perilously close to Earth.
DeleteMy cloud-free skies have provided a perfect view of this moon.
ReplyDeleteA lot of us seem to have been fortunate in seeing the moon.
DeleteOur female goats use to head butt each other when it was a full moon round now and we would take them to the buck to breed them. The moon controls so much including the tides.
ReplyDeleteThat is fascinating. We think we control so much, but our efforts are paltry.
DeleteFull moons were often warning signs for wars. Orange moons especially.
DeleteDisappointingly overcast here. I used to love watching such full moons rise above the Thames - huge and orange (atmospheric pollution possibly) as it emerged from the eastern horizon.
ReplyDeleteMoon over still water is a lovely sight.
DeleteNovember is here therefore we no longer have clear skies. I miss seeing it occur.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we have clear skies, other times not. I would miss the moon, too.
DeleteI saw the moon early rising last night and it did look bigger than normal as it was rising.
ReplyDelete😀
DeleteIt sure has made the crazies come out of the woodwork.
ReplyDeleteWerewolves and so forth!
DeleteIn Sheffield, beavers are busy the whole year through.
ReplyDeleteBeing Yorkshire beavers, they would be busy.

ReplyDeleteSurely you mean "dye" with a "y". Which colour are you after?

ReplyDeleteAll rather tiresome.
DeleteIt's nice to see your words in print, even if they are repetitious.
DeleteSuch a beautiful moon.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
It was lovely.
DeleteI never knew about the Beaver moon, because we don't have beavers in Australia. Who the heck is this "die" person?
ReplyDeleteI tried to find what it's called in Australia and came up with 'Beaver moon' which is odd. It's also called Mourning Moon or Frosty Moon, neither of which seems appropriate as you enter the summer months.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately we haven't had a clear sky for weeks, so no Beaver Moon for us to see! xxx
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame. Has there been unrelenting rain as well?
