Cat in a box
Cats cannot resist boxes. They sit on them, in them, under them. They jump onto them, leap off them, sharpen their claws on them.
The box may look too small for them, but they will squeeze themselves in, regardless.
The other day it was Herschel’s turn to explore a fairly sizeable box.
He jumped in, peeped over the top, sniffed about, looked around and then leapt out again.
This is what he said.
Peep-bo!What’s that over there? Shall I go and have a look? Can I be bothered?
Getting bored now. There’s not much going on in here. Think I’ll find something else to do.
To find out what they like about cardboard boxes, perhaps you should try sitting in one for an hour or two.
ReplyDeleteGood idea. Is there a box big enough . . . ?
DeleteI question the fact "cats cannot resist boxes". In all my life so far, not a single one of my cats over the years has ever sat in a box or done anything else with a box. They might sniff at it and then walk away.
ReplyDeleteYou have had very superior cats. Ours are obviously missing a brain cell or two.
DeleteIt is so true. I always wondered why they love to be in boxes so much.
ReplyDeleteThey always look so satisfied with themselves.
DeleteThough I've had cats who love to sit in boxes or baskets, Cricket does not. Totally uninterested. Herschel looks happy, however.
ReplyDeleteCricket has no wish to look foolish, clearly .
DeleteYes they do love a box, strange isn't it?
ReplyDeleteIt amuses them.
DeleteWhy do cats like boxes? Do they feel secure within a box? Or is it just curiosity. A dog might peer into the box, but not get inside.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a mixture of curiosity and security.
DeleteSmall children do the same...
ReplyDeleteThey do. In fact, a cardboard box is the best gift of all for a small child.
DeleteI love to watch a cat in a smaller box, and as JayCee says, little children as well.
ReplyDeleteI remember so well the way a child finds a box more fascinating than the present it contains.
DeleteShe is so petite and lovely!
ReplyDeleteHe's actually quite a large cat - it was a big box. 😺
DeleteIt doesn't take much to entertain a cat, does it? A paper bag or a box, and there you go...happy cat.
ReplyDeleteUnless someone thinks it amusing to tie paper bags to their paws - they don't like that and I don't like people who do that.
DeleteThat's Precious, quickly bored if there is not a toy in the box. Even then at 13 she's tiring of playing games to entertain me, lol.
ReplyDeleteAww, she has to have a rest sometimes . . .
DeleteOurs resists. She has no interest at all. Silly thing.
ReplyDeleteNot silly - superior. 😸😾
DeleteI liked your pictures of a cat in a box. If you make a circle on the floor they will often sit in that.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. The magic circle?
ReplyDeleteWhy hadn't I thought of giving the barn kitties boxes to play and sleep in. I'll do that today! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLet me know how they react. I'm learning that not all cats like boxes . . . another belief hits the dust!
DeleteCats and toddlers. Makes you think.
ReplyDeleteAll young things like to explore and play - it's what makes them so fascinating to watch.
DeleteNeither of my kitties are interested in boxes.
ReplyDeleteArent they so funny!! And I have one (ginger one) sitting in a box right as I type this !!! xx
ReplyDeleteYes, they make me laugh a lot of the time.
DeleteYes, a family member has two cats and they just cannot resist a box.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I'm learning from the comments here that some cats can indeed resist a box! So, another of my beliefs is challenged . . .😀
DeleteCats and boxes go together like jelly and peanut butter!
ReplyDeletePerfect partners.
DeleteOur foster cat doesn't seem to be enamored with boxes.
ReplyDeleteIt's strange how some are and some aren't.
DeleteSome cats do seem to be facinated by cardboard boxes. The last time we visited our son and daughter in law, two of the 10 week old kittens were having great fun in the kitchen with a few boxes. It was comical to watch.
ReplyDeleteThey are fun. Much better than television.
