Cat in a box

Cat in a box

Cats cannot resist boxes. They sit on them, in them, under them. They jump onto them, leap off them, sharpen their claws on them.

The box may look too small for them, but they will squeeze themselves in, regardless.

The other day it was Herschel’s turn to explore a fairly sizeable box.

He jumped in, peeped over the top, sniffed about, looked around and then leapt out again.

This is what he said.

                                                    Peep-bo!

I can hear something. Who’s there? I’m warning you, keep out of my box. Yes, I mean you, Jellicoe.

What’s that over there? Shall I go and have a look? Can I be bothered?

Getting bored now. There’s not much going on in here. Think I’ll find something else to do.

  1. To find out what they like about cardboard boxes, perhaps you should try sitting in one for an hour or two.

    1. Good idea. Is there a box big enough . . . ?

  2. I question the fact "cats cannot resist boxes". In all my life so far, not a single one of my cats over the years has ever sat in a box or done anything else with a box. They might sniff at it and then walk away.

    1. You have had very superior cats. Ours are obviously missing a brain cell or two.

  3. It is so true. I always wondered why they love to be in boxes so much.

  4. Though I've had cats who love to sit in boxes or baskets, Cricket does not. Totally uninterested. Herschel looks happy, however.

  5. Yes they do love a box, strange isn't it?

  6. Why do cats like boxes? Do they feel secure within a box? Or is it just curiosity. A dog might peer into the box, but not get inside.

    1. I think it's a mixture of curiosity and security.

    1. They do. In fact, a cardboard box is the best gift of all for a small child.

  8. I love to watch a cat in a smaller box, and as JayCee says, little children as well.

    1. I remember so well the way a child finds a box more fascinating than the present it contains.

    1. He's actually quite a large cat - it was a big box. 😺

  10. It doesn't take much to entertain a cat, does it? A paper bag or a box, and there you go...happy cat.

    1. Unless someone thinks it amusing to tie paper bags to their paws - they don't like that and I don't like people who do that.

  11. That's Precious, quickly bored if there is not a toy in the box. Even then at 13 she's tiring of playing games to entertain me, lol.

  12. Ours resists. She has no interest at all. Silly thing.

  13. I liked your pictures of a cat in a box. If you make a circle on the floor they will often sit in that.

  14. That's interesting. The magic circle?

  15. Why hadn't I thought of giving the barn kitties boxes to play and sleep in. I'll do that today! Thanks!

  22. Some cats do seem to be facinated by cardboard boxes. The last time we visited our son and daughter in law, two of the 10 week old kittens were having great fun in the kitchen with a few boxes. It was comical to watch.
