Three days ago we saw the sun shining brightly in a flawless blue sky and casting shadows among the branches of the trees.
Here is a Great Spotted Woodpecker in an oak tree. There must be insects and larvae around and she's making sure they don't damage the developing buds. Actually, she's not in the least altruistic - there's a feast to be had and she's having it!

Beautiful blue sky, lovely shadows, and a bird - what more could a photograph want?
ReplyDeleteVery nice, Janice!

Oh, and isn't it lovely to see that blue and the shadows even if it's just for a little while? Lovely capture, Janice! Enjoy!

They not mean to help us...but they do anyway. She must be sitting there enjoying the sun too.
ReplyDeleteHad a woodpecker fly into the third floor of the house last year. The cats were amused, but I was not!

ReplyDeletepretty tree and sky :)
Gorgeous shadow shot!
ReplyDeleteMy shadow shot, hope you can come by.
Very nice! Your woodpecker friend looks a little bit like our kookaburra. He probably doesn't up close but in this photo he does. Nice to see you have such lovely blue skies! I've been enjoying blue skies this week too!
ReplyDeleteYes it will take a while for things to return to normal here in Qld but great accomplishments have been made in a little over a week already. So things are certainly looking up and there's a lot of positiviy in the air. Which is a whole lot better than relentless rain in the air :) Have a great week!
Oh wow! I've never heard of a Great Spotted Woodpecker. It must have been so much fun to spot him getting a snack.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching your Garden Flowers slide show while I write and just wanted to say those photos are awesome! Wow!
You were lucky to be able to make this photo ! We have a Woodpecker here around, I can hear it but never managed to see it.
ReplyDeleteI would never have spotted the woodpecker if you hadn't mentioned it. Spring is definitely on its way.
ReplyDeleteNice to see blue skies again! We have woodpecker visit too, but it's very camera shy - great shot!
ReplyDeleteVery nice shadow cover for the great spotted woodpecker!
ReplyDeleteA lovely surprising capture.
ReplyDeleteIF SHADOWS COULD TALK
ReplyDeleteIf shadows could talk,
Just what would they say?
If you listen close,
You’ll hear them, you may.
Shadows do chatter
And gossip and talk
In the store windows,
Along the sidewalk,
Over the mountains,
On prairie and plain,
Begging for sunshine
And not days of rain;
Emboldened by light,
The stark shadows say:
“We’re out for a lark,
Please join us at play!”

It's nice that she keeps down the insect population while keeping herself fed.
