Birthday present

It was Barry’s birthday at the beginning of the month. I gave him a dog!
He is always losing his glasses – Barry, that is, not the little Labrador, so I thought a small dog would be just the thing to help him locate them - or even retrieve them 😉.
The little Labrador made him smile, though.
We have a reciprocal arrangement for my birthday and I am engaged in researching and selecting whatever-it-is I’m interested in. 😊
My apologies for being a miseryguts yesterday - there was really no excuse for it - but thank you all for your kind responses,
I no longer bother with birthday gifts for myself or other adults in the family, but I will buy something for the twins and the great grandson. Everyone else just gets a card sent in the mail. A proper card not an email one.
ReplyDeleteThe Labrador is cute and a great idea, he just has to remember to put his glasses on it!
Therein lies the problem! So far, he has remembered . . .
DeleteAh that's a really sweet gift!
ReplyDeleteThere are all sorts of options - owl, flamingo, cat and one for you, husky:-)
DeleteThe dog looks like Gilbert! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought;-)
DeleteNothing like when the gift is something that the recipient likes!
ReplyDeleteVery true.
DeleteLove the wee dog and as for misery guts we ate all entitled to take some time to breathe in (the earth does it over winter so why do we feel we have to soldier through the quieter times?)
ReplyDeleteThe thought of the earth breathing in is interesting - nice idea - though, obviously, breathing out in other areas and then there are volcanoes . . . oh, dear;-)
DeleteOh, that's a clever stand - I love it. xx
ReplyDeleteI came across it quite by chance and was so pleased.
DeleteHe is lovely. Useful too.
ReplyDeleteWe have stopped bothering with birthday cards and presents for each other. His decision, not mine. I just send cards to the niece and nephews and money to the little ones. My sister always gets a little something from me though.
I keep saying we shouldn't bother but there are outside pressures. I remember feeling the same about my parents, that they really should celebrate with gifts when the truth was that they were perfectly happy.
DeleteWe do the same with our gifts, very useful to get what you wanted, there if too much stuff around, and as we spent years decluttering, it would be madness to bring more stuff in.
ReplyDeleteI'm often tempted to buy something and then stop to think where on earth I would put it - lovely table lamps, for example - there are no spare surfaces . . .
DeleteYou had something close on your mind yesterday. Our world of blog is rarely judgemental.
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty smart gift for Barry. I'm sure he will love it. We've given up on birthday presents between ourselves, aside from a bottle of something imported from a country to your north.
You're spoilt for choice with the liquid gold. but what a lovely thing to explore.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely gift....Making a 'spectacle' of itself already..
ReplyDeleteAnd! Yes! What do you buy man who has everything....???
Penicillin.....??? HeHe! :O).
There is a cat version . . .
DeleteThe lovely labrador really does have kind eyes and a gentle smile. Not easily achieved from wood.
ReplyDeleteIt's well done, isn't it?
DeleteI really like the dog that you got for your husband. The other two won't get jealous, and you also don't have to feed this one, lol. I hope he had a wonderful birthday.
ReplyDeleteIt's a win-win situation!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to come across a gift that you know the receiver will appreciate. Why is that present buying for loved ones seems to get harder as we get older?

ReplyDeleteThe things that appeal to older people tend to be more expensive. That's one of the reasons that buying gifts for small people is so much more fun! x
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the most perfect gift? In fact, it would be the perfect present for Jos too ... xxx
ReplyDeleteThere are a number of different options, including a flamingo and a cat.
DeleteThe little Labrador made me smile too :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
i smile every time I see it:-)
DeleteOh my friend! We all struggle from time to time. We really do have a wonderful little blogging community. I am glad you feel better!
ReplyDeleteBlogging makes you realise that most people are very pleasant and I'm very grateful.
DeleteHi Janice - what a fun idea ... lovely to see. I didn't catch your grump but will shortly ... glad you're out of it ... life is life isn't it - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteOh, Hilary, I'm sorry to hear that the black dog may be visiting soon. It's a misery, but as you say, life is life and there's not a thing we can do about it.
DeleteI like the description "miseryguts" - new to me :) You must not feel bad about feeling bad - everybody's load is different but no one's is more right or wrong. We feel what we feel. Yesterday I was simply saying, Yes! I know how it is in such a relationship - your partner always has your back, and you, theirs. Having someone to talk to is so important.
ReplyDeleteI love the little dog. The glasses give him ears! When I was a child, I was given a china dog to hold my glasses and watch and earrings. The glasses went on his nose, so he looked like he was wearing them. I still have him and you have given me an idea for a blog post :) Well done on a unique birthday gift.
Your china dog sounds delightful. How nice to have something from your childhood - you must have looked after him very carefully.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet and cool looking Labrador pup to look after Barry's glasses.
ReplyDeleteGreat present :-)
He is sweet, isn't he?
