Superbowl
I tried watching the Superbowl but just couldn’t fathom it. It looked to me like a slightly more sophisticated version of British Bulldog.
The most interesting people were the referee and the opposing head coaches. When the half-time ‘show’ came on, it was mesmerising, with some talented gymnasts and dancers, but the singers, none of whom I recognised, unsurprisingly, left me cold. I quite enjoyed the roller-skating, but then I felt the garden calling me and that was that.
I cannot reconcile the huge money-fest of the Superbowl with the estimated 1,500 homeless people living in the tunnels under the casinos. They are known as tunnel dwellers or moles. It is a miserable existence.
I didn't watch. I don't understand American football. There seems to be more stopping and not doing anything rather than playing a game. Son in law really likes it and had a party with some friends. I stayed in my room lol
ReplyDeleteThere's not much action, is there? Very strange.
DeleteI didn't watch it but from what I saw on the news, it looked terribly chaotic and rowdy. But I suppose most football games of any kind can be.
ReplyDeleteI'd heard so much hype about it that I thought I'd give it a go. I shan't bother again:-)
DeleteThe game is not played here. So don't know much about it.
ReplyDeleteYou're not missing much!

ReplyDeleteWhen I was working in NE Oklahoma in the late 1980s I had the privilege of attending a Kansas Chiefs home game with a bunch of American colleagues who tried to explain it all to me. The whole occasion was an enjoyable experience even if the finer points of the game remained a bit baffling. Growing up in Nottingham I often used to go with my brother to watch Forest on Saturday afternoons. The American football atmosphere was so different, with none of the 'edge' associated with our football crowds pre Hillsborough and Heysel.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Gail.
English football matches can be intimidating - and that's on the stands.
DeleteIt must have been fun to go to an American football match with friends.
I've never got American football either - but then I don't much enjoy those 'macho' team sports anyway. xx
ReplyDeleteI was intrigued by the attire - tight-fitting breeches, gloves, chin guards and helmets and the boots/shoes looked quite inadequate - but what would I know;-) x x x
DeleteI'll take American football or leave it, it does'nt really
ReplyDeletebother me, but l do understand it, strange and funny
rules, l must admit..! It's suppose to be taking off over
here in the UK..but l've not seen any evidence of it....!
I did'nt watch this years Superbowl...it seemed that awful
singer Taylor Swift had more publicity than the game itself.
What a horrid individual she it...conning millions out of so
called fans...just like Adele does...! :( HeHe! "Nuff Said".....

People will pay silly money for all sorts of things. Adele has a good voice but I wish she'd clean up her conversation!
DeleteI read some place that she lost 3 stone last
Deleteyear...l don't know where....perhaps she just
removed the metal bar from her brassiere...! :).
(Hope l spelt 'brassiere' correctly)...
"What did the bra say to the hat"...???
"You go on ahead..l'll give these two a lift"...! :O).
My son and his fiancΓ©e enjoy watching American football so probably watched the Superbowl. I'm afraid I'm quite clueless about it.
ReplyDeleteI remember playing British bulldog as a child though.
My husband tried to explain it to me but I was lost and he wasn't really interested, anyway - he's just got a good brain!
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch it. I had no interest in it. I never have. And this is the first that I've heard about the tunnel dwellers. Off to google.
ReplyDeleteIt's not happy reading and it's not just in Las Vegas.
DeleteI've never watched Superbowl.
ReplyDeleteHomelessness is a big problem world-wide.
All the best Jan
I don't think you've missed much, to be honest.
DeleteHomelessness is a curse in every community.
I had not realized that you could watch the Super Bowl there. It is quite a production. And then there was Taylor Swift in the audience, as her boyfriend is ____Kelce for the Chiefs. We kept seeing shots of her. People often just watch for the commercials. I found the boring, except the one by Robert Kennedy (a relative of THE Kennedys) which I found very disturbing. As for the game intself, it started out boring but ended up to be exciting. I didn't mind that the Chiefs won, as San Francisco beat my GreenBay Packers, so good for the Chiefs. As for Taylor Swift and Kelce, more power to them and their relationship. Hoping Taylor will endorse Biden as she did in 2020. We need all the help we can get. As for the halftime show, pretty boring. I am not an Usher fan, but I heard the show got good reviews by others. Apparently Usher married his long time girlfriend in Las Vegas after the game. Good news, I guess. I agree -- too much money spent. The "cheap seats" went for $6000. Enough to feed a family for a year.
ReplyDeleteWe are all crossing out fingers that the Orange One isn't elected again. How can he even run for President with so many criminal charges against him?
DeleteOne would have thought! It is a frightening phenomenum. And his words about NATO! Joe Biden may be "old," but he is NOT dangerous.
DeleteDT seems impervious to the rule of law.
DeleteI do like to watch "American football." I understand it more than I understand "European football," or soccer as we call it. It is an interesting game, once one understands it. Lately, however, I have preferred basketball!
ReplyDeleteI like basketball and used to play it. Fast and exciting:-)
ReplyDeleteYes, it is. Neat that you used to play it! My team is the Milwaukee Bucks which have done well these past years, with Giannis, etc.
